Cleaning Smelt

I got a bunch of smelt last weekend, and I cleaned about half of them. I got lazy and took the second half and froze them in bags whole. Does anyone else do this, and are they still good if when I want to eat them I take them out and clean them?

Yes I freeze mine and clean them when I want to eat them. I use ziplocks, put a meal's worth in them then a little water and submerg in water to the ziplock to push all the air out then zip it. If eaten smelt 6 months old this way. This is a good way to package smelt for bait too.
