Christmas Lake

Recommended Posts

Does anyone ever have any luck with catching the Rainbows that are supposedly in Christmas? I'd like to give it a try as I've never fished them here. Without giving up all your secrets, do any of you have advice to fish trout in Christmas? General areas? presentation?

Search around for past threads.. I have posted a lot of info. This is getting into the slow time of year now.. if you are dedicated enough, you should be able to hit a few fish here and there... there are plenty of trout in there, most are huge by other peoples trout standards... leave the fly rod at home, it wont do you any good in 45 feet of water.

Dont outrule fishing at night this time of year. Conventional walleye crankbaits and shore casting spoons work pretty good. Spinners have their place too. Plan out your presentation for trout in the 16"-30" class.. not 8" brook trout.

Yeah, I've wanted to try that lake for rainbows in the summer as well. Have either of you guys ever tried Little Long for trout? I would assume the same rules still apply. There must be some giants in there as well.

I have tried little long with no success for trout.. only tiny fish of various species.

I will not go back there.. the local people are very rude and think they own the lake. People take thier kids swimming on the boat launch and seem to direct them into your path when you try to back the boat. They will give you grief if you have an outboard on your boat larger than 10 hp(10 hp limit) and yell at you and say they are calling the police(I used trolling motor, gas tank was not even in boat)... Then the locals seem to gather for a nice swim on the lauch again as the see you are coming in, refuse to move.. and stare at you like you have an IQ of 6 when you ask them to move so you can use the PUBLIC boat launch.

I have not had good experiences in the 3 or 4 times I have been there.. and fishing success was nothing to make me want to go back on any trip.

I'll second what FisherDave said about the "locals" on Litte Long lake. No trout for me either.

Nice job Bob! Fishing off the neighbors dock sucked for us. My gang is coming up Thursday night till Monday, this will be our opener, we'll hit it hard. It's a bummer my dock is mostly under water and the lift isn't in. Thanks to the neighbor around the corner for letting us park on shore at there place next weekend.

I had a great weekend the weather was decent and fishing was good. I caught 5 walleyes 21"-25", 4 northerns largest was 32" and a 17 largemouth opening day. 2 more walleyes, 2 crappies 2 northerns on Sunday all on jig and minnows.

We had a good opener as well we could have kept limits opening day, but just kept enough for a fish fry. Then Sunday had our little friendly tourney and everyone had a pretty good day. Pulling cranks and jigs n minnows caught fish.

Had a great opening weekend. Son and I boated 51 walleye between Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of small stuff but no problem getting some nice keepers. This is a pic of the best weekend fish for us.

I was on Rice this weekend also. Seen boat lifts with water up to the canopy. I was the only one to catch a fish out of the hole campground It was about a 6" crappie.

We had a pretty good weekend. There were two couples and we limited out both Saturday and Sunday. The eyes we kept were all 15-17”.  We caught many 10-14” eyes and one 26” which was returned to the water immediately. All on a variety of jigs in 18-35’ of water. As usual the women out fished both of us😀

I will second the advice on watching out for floating debris.  We saw a lot of floating logs and deck sections this weekend.  Also, most hazard and navigation buoys were not out yet.  I wonder how many lower units and props were destroyed this weekend?  It would be dicey if you don't know the lake.
