Does anyone here fish suckers? Ive been hammering them on the St Louis river for the last 5 days. Also caught 3 walleyes and enough hammerhandle northerns to fill up a truck box! Sure is fun to be able to fight fish in open water!

Hey, have you any of you ever tried spearing suckers in the shallow creeks and rivers in the spring? It is a super fun time and actually quite challenging. I would recommend finding a small stream on all most any larger body of water and checking for the bottom eaters. They are really good smoked.

Hey "Shortie" Where exactly is a good place for springtime shore walleyes? I am not too familar with the area.

I fish at the forbes dam and a few places on the sturgeon river. I also shoot suckers with my bow in some small streams. as for a place for spring time walleyes try the forbes dam on hiway 16 at the entrance to Eveleth Taconite. I was there again today and caught a bunch of suckers and northern and 2 male walleyes about 14 inches each. I also do well at sixberries landing in side lake for walleyes near opener and for crappies before opener. Another place for walleyes is the pike river dam. season there is closed for one month after opener due to the large amounts of spawning walleyes, I usually try to be there the day they take the restrictions of the river.

We have caught a few suckers on the ST.Louis river on 131 ave. west and River ( correct name ?) street. The road runs along side the river and you will see a stretch of the road that opens up to the river where you can set up and fish right next to your vehicle. Crawlers seem to work the best.
We also catch catfish with either smelt or fathead chubs. Something to do until the opener or I find the Crappies! Try it out.

ShortFatGuy...I have a cabin one block from Sixberry's landing. Go one block past the landing and on the right down loonbay Rd. It is right on a point facing the big lake. I've fished on the West S. side of the bridge for years and done very good. I grew up fishing that chain and man I miss it.
