Who will be on Big Sandy over the 4th?

Recommended Posts

Over the last couple months, we have seen several posts about people that will probably be on Big Sandy over the 4th of July weekend.

I for one will be there. Who else?

As last year dictated, I am not sure how much fishing will get done over the weekend with all the chasing around and festivities.

We will be at the In laws which is on Bridge Road.

Their place is a trailer house on the south side of the road right before you get to the bridge.

I just found out last night that a guy got let go at my part time job, so I have to work this weekend. So I will not be coming up. But good luck to you all who fish, and be safe. Remember that lake get pretty crazy on the 4th. grin.gif

I'll be there also. I think everyone is correct in saying that the fishing will be ify. Althought, I had good luck on a busy weekend like the 4th one year. I just kept trolling for walleyes as the big boats raced by. Everytime I hit this one spot, I would pickup an eye. Ended up limiting out for two people in the boat. Good luck to everyone and be safe.

Fish early.

They are there.

I have had no problem catching fish in that lake over the busy 4th of July weekend. Just gotta get out there before all the pleasure boaters.

BLB,

Your dissin your home waters for Big Sandy? confused.gif

My friend is playing in a band there, sounds like a great time over the 4th. Unfortunately, I have too much fishing to do around home or I'd be there. grin.gif

Yes.

July 4th is a Big Sandy tradition.

And I might add that its quite impressive for walleyes in July, so its not too hard to head that way... cool.gif

Its about the only lake I fish seriously for walleyes any more actually.

SHHH. Don't tell the bass dudes. I might get shunned.

I said I was going to be there this weekend, but the boat traffic was bad with the nice weather, but since I have the week off, I will hit it in the middle of the week.

BigBass

do you know a guy named Milt? he was staying at Eric Kemp's and somehow we got on a conversation about fishing and he mentioned that he knew a guy (you?) who was staying right by the bridge on Bridge Rd who was a very avid fisherman

HA!!!

So it was you.

I have been wondering who and how that connection happened. Way too funny. Where were you staying??

Did you fish?

I forgot to post my results.

Wind was pretty stiff most of the time, so I hit a small local lake for bass on Saturday. We got a gaggle of fish, but a lot of dinks. Biggest was 18 inches though.

Fished on Big Sandy 4 times over the rest of the weekend for walleyes, and got 7. Biggest was almost 20 inches. The rest were 13 to 15 inches.

I'm not a big fan of fishing in white caps, so I was limited in a couple of my favorite spots.

we bought a cabin on the Flowage over the winter. We went out a couple of times, but at Noon! (I was on vacation). No luck.

Spent most of the week pontooning on the sand bar and jet skiing.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?

Sight fished this one, also got a 19" off a bed with a senko but didn't get a picture because my phone died. Length was 14" for the one in the photo. Haven't been able to get out much recently, but I should be able to go Saturday.
