Had a meeting w/ a few guys the other night to discuss having a Carp Tournament on Lake Zumbro. Entrance fee would be somewhere between $35-$55. Which would include lunch or dinner depending upon time frame and a chance at some attendance prizes.

Prizes would be merchandise and/or gift certificates.

Prizes would also be by catagories such as:

Largest by hook and line

Largest by bow

Largest stringer (by weight) by hook and line and bow

Largest stringer (by numbers) by hook and line and bow

Junior division and senior division

These are just some of the ideas, nothing fleshed out as yet.

We were wondering if there is any interest out there? How many of you would likely enter such a tournament?

Sounds like it would be fun, but I'm tighter than tree bark so the entrance fee would be too much bling for a poor mans income like mine.

Yes, carp only.

Additional catagory suggested for largest caught on a fly rod.

I have fished several carp tournaments back in South Dakota where I am from. I am fishing one again this year for the 5 time. I love it. Winnings include $100 for the biggest carp, $100 for the most, $100 for the smallest. Each team entry is $100. It is 100% payback. Each team weights their 10 biggest carp and that detirmines the ending results. Teams of 2 per boat. Payback is adjusted according to place. Top 10 or so get paid. It was all fishing with hook and line, but I do like the different catagories... just not sure how practical it is & how much particiapation there will be. Maybe moreso here in MN since you can only use 1 fishing pole per person.

Random sponsers give gift certificates to random places (ie for 25th place, you get a Cabella's gift cert for $xx.00)

I would be interested in helping set things up if any help is needed. I would also be interested in fishing with somebody since I just moved to MN and don't have access to a boat anymore.

Last year we caught the most (68) and finished well in the standings. We also caught the smallest the past 2 years. Good stuff.

Any more interest here. Its good for the waters. Every year, the tournaments I am in clean out thousands of pounds of carp out of the waters. There are always hog farmers/ranchers that are willing to take all the carp free of charge. I guess the hogs love them.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?

Sight fished this one, also got a 19" off a bed with a senko but didn't get a picture because my phone died. Length was 14" for the one in the photo. Haven't been able to get out much recently, but I should be able to go Saturday.
