Thursday morning mayhem!

Recommended Posts

I arrived on Thursday at 8:30 AM but had to wait 45 minutes at the Ash River Visitors Center to get the boat in because of some clown in a motor home and another guy in a red truck. ‘Motor Home guy’ had just backed his boat in and decided that it would be a good time to unload all of his camping stuff from the motor home onto the dock. Then he left the motor home down there until he loaded it all from the dock into his boat and organized it! Did anyone else know that apparently you need a TV, DVD player, power generator, your dual chamber Sleep Number bed complete with air compressor, and a 1,000 square foot tent to truly be in harmony with nature in the north woods? I’m not positive but I may have even seen an air-conditioning unit in there!

‘Red Truck guy’ pulled up to the dock in his boat and began to unload all the camping stuff onto the other dock while his buddy went to get the truck. Remember, there was no room on the left hand side dock because ‘motor home guy’ had all the comforts from home already over there including the kitchen sink for a few days of “roughing it” in the wilderness. ‘Red Truck guy’ then took a few tries at getting his boat on straight. Luckily for all of us waiting, the fourth time was a charm! He and his buddy then loaded all the camping stuff back into the boat after they pulled the truck ahead 10 feet. All the dirty looks and loud comments from myself and especially the other 6 vehicles waiting to put in didn’t seem to bother these guys in the least.

‘Red Truck guy’ pulled out and finally and I was able to back my boat in. I had all my camping stuff already in the boat so I was down there for a total of 4-5 minutes. I parked my truck way up in the top parking lot and walked back to my boat. Two more parties had already put their boats in by the time I got back there but ‘Motor Home guy’ was still going at it. I was going to politely say something to him on the way to my boat but it turns out ‘Motor Home guy’ has a sense of humor! Just when I was within listening distance I heard him ask his wife if she really needed two pillows! I started laughing so hard that I couldn’t say anything to him and just jumped in my boat and went out to find a campsite.

If either of you guys happen to be reading this; GET A GRIP! Have the common courtesy to load and unload your boat with your camping stuff in the parking lot! Then you can launch or load your boat without holding everyone else up. I’m sure glad I left Lakeville at 4:00 AM to get up there early! Wow, it feels good to get that off my chest.

Kind of ticks you off doesn’t it. I have been there, and have a hard time believing that people can be so insensitive. It’s terrible that people will hold up everyone else and not think anything of it. I don’t know what you can do but put you’re boat in and go on your way.

Would be nice to be able to blow them away because of stupidity, but that probably wouldn’t hold up in court.

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?

Sight fished this one, also got a 19" off a bed with a senko but didn't get a picture because my phone died. Length was 14" for the one in the photo. Haven't been able to get out much recently, but I should be able to go Saturday.

Sizes caught matched most recent survey very closely - a lot of 12-14" fish with a few 15". Three to six feet of water against rocky shoreline at dusk was very productive. Fish still discharging milt. Should continue to be great fishing for next couple weeks along shoreline.

Our group of 6 guys did pretty good. From Thursday evening to Sunday caught a bunch of crappies, 4 walleyes that were to big, a handful of pike and sunfish. One sunfish was 11". All on the west end.

You did a lot better than us...  Did you mostly catch them in mornings and evenings or were you able to catch them mid-day also?
