Anything happening on Shetek? I was there Saturday but didn't fish. Looked like a couple boats out trying it but not many...

I haven't been out there for a while but the local buzz in the pub is don't waste your time, nuttins biting.

Interpret that as you like. You know how local pub chat can be deceiving.

I was thinking of fishing Shetek on wed/thurs and have never fished the lake before. What is a good ballpark presentation to start with? I will be just down the road at my in-laws and thought I would fish if I could.

thanks

When I fish Shetek while the water is soft I normally use a lip hooked minnow on a Lindy Rig with a spinner and just drift or slow troll. Pretty generic reply, I know. Sorry. That's pretty much all I do. When they're in a biting mood they take it. When nuttins biting for me it seems everyone else is getting the skunk-er-oo also.

Good luck.

I drag rapalas around there often and like Boilerguy, I think they are either biting on anything and everything or it doesn't matter they won't hit nothing. That lake is 100% hot or totally turned off in my experience...

Not the kinda news I wanted to hear! frown.gif I was thinking of trying Shetek tonight. Never hurts to try I guess and I haven't heard much about any of the other area lakes either. Does anyone know of good places to fish catfish from shore on Shetek?

The dam in Currie is a good spot for catfish.

Fished by the bridge going out to Valhalla last Wed. I picked up 5 or 6 crappies, a small cat and a couple of small walleyes. The walleyes definitely came up to shore that night. Unfortuneatly, I decided to put down my micro to try a rap which did not work. I went back to my jig and minnow but got stuck and had a nice one break me off and then the bit was done. It's been my experience from shore that if the walleyes come in, you've got about 30-45 minutes before the bit shuts down. Went back Fri. and had to work hard for 2 small crappies and 1 small walleye. Of course by Fri. there had been some rain and the temp. was a good 10-15 degrees cooler.

Haven't tried for cats yet. Chicken liver has worked for me pretty good in the past but it's kinda a pain to use. Anybody had any luck with other types of bait on Shetek (cutbait, perpared baits, etc.)?

I'm far from an expert cat guy, but here is what I've used on Shetek and other area lakes with some good results, but be warned, it's awfull smelly.

I cut up chunks of chicken, put in a mason jar with honey and molasses. Set outside on the garage roof for a couple of weeks so it gets some good sun.

Terribly smelly, but works fairly well.

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
