Lota Report for Lake Superior - 6/18

Recommended Posts

Green&Gold and I were on the water from Knife River at 0500 on Saturday. We ran south until we found the temperature break and it was a GOOD one…41 to 51 over 75-200 fow. There were coho breaking the surface all over the place. Blue Firetiger sticks 150’ back of the planer ruled for us in the morning. Once the sun hit the water we started seeing fish on orange spoons, 25 down and 65 back. We tossed out some flasher/fly rigs on dipsys once the boards shut down and they lit up right away. Shoulda gone to those sooner. We cleared off the lake once the runners passed KR. All in all a good morning, calm deck and no little pills required. Put some nice coho in the box and got to tussle with a nice laker that let go at the boat after taxing poor G&Gs biceps considerably.

Would’ve been nice to have another rider or two to get a few more lines in the water. We lost two riders at midnight on Friday night. We oughta have an FM hotline for picking up riders at the last minute!

I’ll be out on Wednesday in search of the break.

If you didnt want to be out at 4:30 AM you would get more riders. Green n gold is getting soft with that new desk job, letting a Laker beat him up like that. blush.gifgrin.gif

Sounds like a good time. Now all you have to do is find me some 33" walleyes! grin.gif

I have Tues/Wed off so let me know if ya can get out.

Thanks again, Lota, for taking me out. It was a great time and the whole fam raved about how good those Coho tasted. Steve, that Laker wasn't huge or anything, but would've came in a lot easier if he hadn't been hooked in the side. If anything, I've gotten soft tussling with those whimpy walleyes. grin.gif JH

We put half of our catch on the grill last night along with a little wild rice and corn...good stuff.

I thought 0430 was pretty kind considering the sun was on the horizon by the time we got lines in the water. We'd better meet at 0400 next time!!! Andy is coming up from the TC on Wednesday and we'll likely be chasing the temp break again. Probably out of TH by then but we'll see. We'll probably be on the water in the wee hours again but I need to be off the water by 1600 to pick up the runt. I'll give you a buzz when launch plans are finalized.

Well, the Hawiian & I along with BlackJackDavey chartered Bag Limit on the 18th. Got 10 Lakers in the 3 to 8 Lb. range. Most bites on pink from 60' to surface bites. Lots of time out on the color line about 4 miles out from the lester. Good fishing!

Later -CLoma

Water level is going down, but slowly.  My dock frame was 6" underwater last week and I can just see it above water today.  It's going to take time.

My lil island front iron crib dock also under bout six inches. No Good! Lil higher than this time May 2008.  😮😮🥅🏒😮 No good to drop west dock for lifts as that would be under also n lift rails n pads be just but under water.  No Good! Marauder Boys miss the lake too. Happened before in my 26 years out there n will happen again so we just deal doing other stuff off lake n enjoy it all. Fun being a Shore Rat for shallow Crappies around home lakes. Bust a move n keep in the Grove. 🏒🥅🤩 We figure by anniversary June 12 th level drop enuff we sneek out in smaller Lund n fix up n open up? 🤩 Best of luck to ya but be safe. This lake is deeper n darker than you or I know…🤩 Big Smiles n Keep on Rocken! T    Did'nt intend to have pic so big....Geeezzz.

We’re in the same boat. Actually I’d like to be in any boat. Our island cabin dock frame is about six inches under water. I hear that water is not rising which gives hope it will fall but I think Memorial Day is too optimistic, at least for us. You should think about other plans?

looking to do some kayak bass fishing on Clearwater lake by Annandale. Are there any Other landings other than the one on the far south west end? Was wondering how the fishing is on the east end but that is a heck of a paddle. Appreciate any feedback.

Water levels seems to be topic of the day. I'm visiting over Memorial Day week. Docks are not in on the island where I stay. Wondering if the water is going down? What do the rivers look like? Are they just pouring our water?? Is water level 6" lower than a few days ago?

Finding plenty of fish around the area lately. Water on most of our area lakes and rivers is very high. Most of the panfish have moved from those back bay areas and are staging for the spawn. You can find the pannies tucked in the weeds right now close to those spawning beds. Casting small jigs without a float to pockets of vegetation or to outside the pencil reeds has been working well.
