6/10-6/14 Report

Recommended Posts

I just returned from FISHMIESTER's cabin and I must say that I had a blast. The weather wasn't the greatest and thus the fishing was tough most of the time. We had a great deal of difficulty locating the fish and after talking with several guys on the water we came to the conlusion that we weren't alone in these troubles.

There were a few fish on the reefs and around the islands, but they were scattered and the bite wasn't hot.

The fish were concentrated in the Black Bay near the Rat Root River and were willing to bite some of the time. One afternoon we caugth 20-30 eyes ranging from 13"-26". They were hitting Husky Jerks and Storm Thundersticks, but the next day they wouldn't hit anything. We got a few fish on Lindy Rigs, but again they weren't biting real well.

We also tried crappies on a few different ocassions and got several hits, but no fish.

The scenery was great and the fish were tasty. All I can say is that I love Rainy Lake and if the wife would let me I move there in a heart beat. Alas there aren't too many openings for an engineer in the Falls. If you ever hear of any let me know.

Was at Island View from the 4th-10th. Sorry for the late report. Weather was not real kind for the week, lots of wind and more wind. All walleyes and notherns were caught trolling clown husky jerks or firetiger raps in Black or Jackfish Bay. The walleyes in Jackfish were mainly in the slot with a few eaters while it was just the opposite in Jackfish, with mainly eaters with an occasional slot fish.

Two biggest northerns were 38 and 38.5 inches. Caught two crappies trolling but otherwise no luck on those. Had a great time and cant wait to come back in the future.

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
