was up camping at Bearskin this weekend. Weather was wet, mosquitos were active, no-see-ums were very prevalent as the red bumps that cover my arms prove, the only thing thicker than the rain clouds were the gnat clouds......I had a blast. We managed to sneak...way way way back into superior national forest and hit the Brule river....wow. Second cast offered up a nice 13 inch brookie...which was dark purple-ish...beautiful..never seen one that dark. More were to be caught..of course not before I broke my rod tip half way down and had to make shift a new one with another rod. My buddy, who is new to this trout thing, managed to dunk himself and fill his waders with nice, clean, cold, arrowhead water. Great time..hit the lake there at bearskin on Sunday and caught plenty of bass on smoke colored tubes...the pike liked them alot....alot...I hope they get indigestion. Despite what most sane people would call a disaster...I see it as a huge success and cant wait to explore a new trout stream, somewhere way back there.

That must have been you that I talked to on Sunday morning when I was fueling the pontoon. Glad you had a good time in our neck of the woods.

hey gunflint i stay at bearskin every year in july for 2 weeks with the spolums, i dunno if u have ever heard of them but they have been goin there for a very long time now, we are comin up on the 17th and we stay in cabin 11 every year, we usually go over to alder or moon/sucker and then sometimes when we r lazy we just hang out on bearskin, we love to fish walleyes, we always do good but if maybe we could hook up one day if u hae time off and fish we could show you so of our spots and and maybe exchange some secrets, im sure u already know all the lakes like that back of your hand but its just an idea, you are one lucky man to be able to live up there all year long, anywho im excited to get up there and hopefully i will see you around

w w,

I talked to GS a couple of weeks ago. He and a few friends are comming up this weekend. It's still been slow for walleyes but with some stable weather forecast for the next several days things should pick up.

Alder has been the hot lake so far. The only real walleye action on East Bearskin has been trolling shallow after dark.

I'll see you when you get up here. I'm the one who's always on the 6-wheeler. gunflint

First open water fishing this morning. Planed to go to Clearwater but water was 6 inches over docks. Drove over to Sylvia/Twin and access was great. Water very clear, could see bottom in more than 12 ft.  Caught several sunfish and bass. 2 northerns and a crappie. Most went back including a 9.5 in male sunny. Beautiful fish. Most caught in less than 3 ft water.  Temp was 61.

We are high up on the hill so no worry of water damage, but our electrical box wasn't too far from the rising lake water. I hope that issue doesn't start hitting others as well!

I was up for opening weekend, but only fished Saturday morning. I had a limit by 6:30 so headed back to the cabin to get work done. In about an hour I lost 2 on the way to the boat, boated a 13" that I threw back, and kept a 14, 15, 16, 17. Nice size eaters. Jig and minnow in 15-20 FOW.  Water temps where I was fishing was 41.    I have damage to 2 docks and several trees down. I hope this water level goes down soon! Good luck everyone.

Opener was decent on Saturday and absolutely on fire Sunday. 9 eyes, three over 25 in, one at 28.5. A bunch of largemouths, some crappie and perch and a TON of bullhead. One of those weekends where your hands start to hurt.

I'm quite happy since I'm going fishing with a pal for the first time in a long time. We plan to purchase some clothing for it, such as exclusive hoodies.

The majority of docks can't be put it. Water is over the top of pretty much every permanent dock.  Very few docks are in.

Crappies are all up shallow in the south metro. Caught this one shore fishing with a beetle spin from a more secluded lake without much access. All of the crappies were between 7-9 inches with this 11.5" being the exception
