Fishing reports??

How has everyone done so far this winter around the Duluth area? Anyone out trying to catch some monster trout around Ely? I recently saw a woman pull out an 18 inch brookie out of the Ely area....beautiful Brook Trout!

Put he walleye stuff away. Did good on Fish,Rice and Island. Right now till ice out crappies are the target. Dont know how many Duluth guys lerk this forum and the lakes are small so cant post any names. But if some of you Duluth guys want to get together and hit er. Might be fun.
Nichols needs to be thinned out should be good for gills with a few Crops mixed in. Also pontoon bay on Fish lake should be good SOON for nice gills.

I didn't get out much early in the year, just had too much stuff going on. Then, once I had more time, seems like the fishing kind of slowed down. Did catch some walleyes, and perch, and a few crappies on the St. Louis in the last few weeks, enough for a few meals. Had a good time splake fishing outside of Grand Marais on the opener, we brought back our limits of med. sized splake.

Spent the morning fishing Inland Lake (near sturgen lake) for Crappies.Got there a little after sun-up and was catching fish as soon as I finished setting up.They were in mostly in water 35-40ft range.They were very picky as to what they hit on,Did well with a bare glow red hook and bobber set-up.Tried jigging all types of different crappie lures had little luck until I switched from using minnow heads to using waxies,then I did well using a small silver pimple.Caught 20-25 fish most were 8-10in but kept 5 over 10 for supper.If anybody else has been fishing Inland Lake I like to hear how you've been doing.Plan on fishing the St Louis tonight up at 131 ST

Are you talking about Island Lake? If so I am headed there one day next week. I'll let you know the results.

Except for two trips to the St. Louis River off Superior, all my Duluth area fishing this winter has been on Wisconsin lakes within an hour or so of Superior.

The two trips to the river yielded decent catches of perch and crappie, though not large numbers. Enough each time for a couple meals. Perch to 12 inches, crappies to a bit longer, a little over 13.

I'd also be up to tackling some bluegills. Haven't fished for them in quite awhile.

OOPS I guess it is Island Lake,I thought Island but spelled Inland,oh well too much fish on the brain.I finished the day out fishing on the St Louis at 131 ST,again I did ok number wise (8) but all around 12-14in.They all hit between 5-6:00 After 6:00 they shut down hard.Tomorrow a friend and I are heading back to ISLAND lake,we'll try to be set up by first light,hopefully we'll catch a couple a "red lakers"out of there. HOOK-UM
