Chester woods stunted bass

Recommended Posts

There has been a little bit of discussion about this so i thought i would condense it into one. I have fished it several times for bass and never managed even a two pounder. It doesn't make sense!!! In the Dnr report it says that they stocked the bass to prey on the small sunfish so that dink sunnies wouldn't overpopulate the lake (not their words exactly but my paraphrase). But still these bass are pushing 10 year old and there should be some tanks in there by now. Are they just few and far between. Or am i fishing it completely wrong. Any ideas on why they don't grow or even if there is some big ones in there i am all ears. ike

ikeslayer,

I don't know if you've fished the crappies and bluegills out there at all, but I've found even those to be stunted. On rare occasion have I found a decent bluegill of any size to mention. I even live in SE Rochester, and its pretty much gotten to the point where I just drive up to Lake Zumbro instead. Much better fishery. Hopefully I can get the canoe out some this summer and maybe try and fish Willow Creek a few evenings.

i would echo this concern. I've had not much luck. Although I did catch 1 1/2 lb lm through the ice 2 winters ago.

I AGREE WITH THE SMALL BASS. 2 OF US FISHED OUT THERE LAST SAT AND CAUGHT 11. ALL WERE AROUND THE 11" TO 13" RANGE. YOU SEE A TON OF SMALLER ONES IN THERE. BUT ONCE IN AWHILE YOU CAN CATCH A GOOD ONE. MY BIGGEST WAS A 4LB THAT I CAUGHT ICE FISHING. LAST SAT A FRIEND OF MINE LOST A HUGE ONE, A 6LB PLUS BASS. HE GOT TANGLED IN THE TREES AND LOST IT.

Hello all, i fish chester at least once a week. I was stunned to see crappies in there, and we have kept some nice ones. As for the Bass, thats why i go there. My biggest is 2 1/2 lbs, just over 15". Yesterday we did see a huge lunker in about 5-7lbs he was huge. It was way in the back by the eagles nest. we threw everything we had at it, and it didnt flinch. Find me someone with a nice boat and a fish finder, and well be happy to show u the big ones, as for now we just rent the paddle boat, and were on our way. Thanks all.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?

Sight fished this one, also got a 19" off a bed with a senko but didn't get a picture because my phone died. Length was 14" for the one in the photo. Haven't been able to get out much recently, but I should be able to go Saturday.
