area lakes or the big lake?

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are going to be in the Lutsen area for a long weekend soon and I was wondering if anyone had some general ideas to offer. I have always been interested in the Kamloops fishing. I enjoy crappie fishing most, but trout would be fun to try also. I am not one to keep many if any fish. Pretty open to ideas if anyone is willing to share some recent stories or ideas. Thanks and good luck to all!

Lutsen is a too far up the shore for Loopers. Poplar river is right there and if the day is nice you could float a spawn bag off the mouth. I wouldnt make a special trip up there to fish right now.
What about skiing?

thanks for the reply. my wife is going to be busy at seminars in the morning and afternoon so i thought i would try fishing either from shore or driving to a lake up near grand marais. we will ski some in the evenings. i'm not a big skier, but love to fish. any ideas on lakes for crappies or trout? i am not interested in keeping anything, if that matters. just looking to get out and explore some of the area. Thanks for the help!

Well Grand Maris you should have said so. I would imagine your going to be on foot. You could try Kimbill(rainbows) or Mink(slake, rainbows). These are designated trout lakes. 1 line and frozen or dead minnows.

what is the best way to fish trout through the ice? using jigging rapala with a minnow head? or maybe a small jig tipped with a waxxie? i honestly have no idea. have done the fly fishing thing but never through the ice. i suppose you would cut a few holes right away to avoid spooking them. again, i appreciate the help and any advice is great.

Pimple and minnow head, Icefly and waxie with very small bobber. Set the hook at the slightest movement. Teardrops and mealworms or salted crappie minnows with bobber. Small jigging raps with treble replaced with 1 size bigger tip with minnow head or tail.
Fish the bottom and 2 ft. below the ice. Best time is daybreak and not a bad idea to to have glow on at that time. Start the morning shallow (6 ft.) then move out to 12 or 15ft. Drill all yo r holes at once. Hole hop when it slows up.

My go to lures with lead core have been #5 Shad Raps and #7 Jointed Rapalas.  With Shad Raps I usually start about 2 mph with 85 ft of lead out in 20 ft of water. I usually use a 20 ft mono leader.  With Jointed Rapalas I let out 100ft of lead traveling 2 mph.  I am moving between 20 and 25 ft of water.

My name is HANNA HENRY .I want to give thanks to HAKEEM AHMED for bringing back my ex husband. No one could have ever made me believe that the letter I’m about to write would actually one day be written. I was the world’s biggest skeptic. I never believed in magic spells or anything like this, but I was told by a reliable source (a very close co-worker) that Trust is a very dedicated, gifted, and talented person,It was one of the best things I have ever done. My love life was in shambles; I had been through two divorces and was on the brink of a third. I just couldn’t face another divorce, and I wanted to try harder to make our relationship work, but my husband didn’t seem to care. and he broke up with me again . I was confused and did not know what to do again, rather they got in contact with HAKEEM AHMED. He did a love spell that made my husband come back to me. We are now very much happy with ourselves. HAKEEM AHMED makes him realize how much we love and need each other .This man is for REAL and for good . He can also help you to fix your broken relationship. I had my husband back! It was like a miracle! He suddenly wanted to go to marriage counseling, and we’re doing very, very well , in our love life . contact email [email protected] or text or add him up on whatsApp at: +27788392740 his web page http://astrologerastrology.com

You'll appreciate having less guys in the boat if you need to drag raps.

I love pulling lead core but usually don't pull it out until later in the season.  Can you share depth and speed numbers that were working with lead?  Thanks.

Heading up early Saturday morning. Going to be a short, discombobulated trip this year. Starting with 4 of us but one has to leave to watch his son play in state (WI) baseball tournament on Tuesday. Rest of us are only there until Wednesday. Kind of disappointing but I'm thinking we'll have to make a trip in September as well.    Forecast calls for wind!

Those are cormorants and they are aggressive fish eaters.  I saw more last weekend than typical on vermilion.  Pretty common  on the east end but I don’t usually see much of any on the west which is where we were.  They eat a lot of fish and surprisingly large fish for their size so they aren’t great for the fish populations.     I can’t believe how fast the water warmed up.  We were seeing up to the high 70’s last weekend.  Typically mid June is mid to upper 60’s.  The Muskies didn’t seem to be too fired up with the quick warm up.  The ones we moved were lazy and would not go in to the turn.  Hopefully some more normal temps this week help.
