Fishing Green Lake for 1st time

Recommended Posts

I am taking a couple of kids fishing this weekend on Green. Never fished the lake before and am wondering if there are any panfish to be had? Also, are the walleyes deep this time of year?

I hate to break some bad news to you but i am not sure this weekend would be the best to go out. There is a big fishing tourney this weekend on saturday and sunday. from 7-3:30 each day. well i suppose it would be better to go after 3:30.

Green Lake is a great place to take the kids out fishing, but it will be busy during the day. Here are some spots to try that will have no tournament pressure.

1. The bridge to the outlet on the East side of the lake. There are tons of sunnies, bass, carp, northerns, and I have pulled some decent walleyes and crappies out of there also.

2. Work the reeds all along there. Find a hole, anchor up, and pitch a small leech or worm in there under a bobber.

3. There is a rock pile on the East side that is marked by a bouy. Tons of smallies. I motored over it last weekend and easily counted 20 nice fish. I would saw anchoring and using minnows or a leech would probably be very good.

If you can find water less then 15 feet with some weeds, I will guarantee that you will catch something. Stay away from Spicer between 3 & 4 pm. It will be a zoo. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info. Whats happening in Spicer? Would we be better off on Diamond or Big Kandi? We're looking at camping at one of the Kandi County Parks.

Olson, there is a really nice park on Games lakes, also.

For kids fishing that would be my first bet. All kinds of panfish to get them started and also a good population of bass. smile.gif you can also motor to norway and catch More bass, and some nice walleyes. If you have your heart on fishing green lake, I know that you can a spot out in the depth

We ended up going to the Games Lake Park like you suggested. Found the crappies on Saturday between downpours and Sunday hit some nice walleyes on Norway. Thanks for the info.

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
