I live in Buhl, MN and was wondering if anyone on here fishes the small lakes around here. That is where i do most of my fishing and would be interested in talking with others about those lakes.

I used to fish Forsyth and Kinney for trout and still make it out to Kinney usually once a winter if I have time while I am back. I've fished both pits there in Buhl and had mixed results in the past. There really is not much for fishing opportunities in that area unless you head West towards Itasca County or East. Spent many years fishing the pits behind you like frasier and sherman when aquafarms were raising trout and then after they pulled out. Each year there were less fish, but they were bigger each year.

Alot of those old pits have huge northern and bass in them. There is going to be a boat landing put in on the grant pit just north of buhl this summer and I am hoping to get it stocked with Lakers as it already has smelt in it as well as bass and northern. Would be nice to not have to go so far for lakers!!!! wink.gif

Short fat guy quit wasting your time and go up to Alaska to visit your brother and do some fishing up there! I have been doing pretty good up here catching Lakers and Artic Char.

WillEverett...Your in the big city I see! I am in Fairbanks and chase some lakers every chance I get.

SFG...Where is your brother located up here? Hell, with free lodgeing there is no reason not to come up and catch some big lakers.

Now that Canisteo pit in Coloraine is so popular with sport anglers for catching Lakers, I think that the DNR is going to start managing more mine pits in the area with an adequate forage base to support populations of Lakers. At least those were the plans when I worked fisheries in Rapids in 2000

Short Fat Guy...I am assuming you did most of your grocery shopping at Jubilee foods in Chisholm, am I correct? Have some friends that work there and my own mother used to work there.

alaskander...I am down here at Elmendorf AFB doing the military thing here for atleast 3 years and hopefully more. I wish we had more Laker fishing close by here but we have to drive a couple hours or so to get anywhere decent. The Char fishing is pretty good though and fishing for them makes up for not being able to catch Walleyes. Do you ever fish down this way at all?

Will...I don't get down your way very often during the winter time. During the summer when I am not in the field I like to fish the Penninsula and ship creek, other than that never done much for winter fishing close to Anchorage! You have better opportunities for ice fishing where you are than I do when it comes for lakers and convienience. Good luck and try to get out as much as you can this winter. Just got back from MN, I was fishing for a month and totally enjoyed every minute.

I have been catching some good size char down here, but not doing too much Laker fishing. Where would you suggest for Lakers around here. Can you please email me some ideas if you have any. [email protected]

My go to lures with lead core have been #5 Shad Raps and #7 Jointed Rapalas.  With Shad Raps I usually start about 2 mph with 85 ft of lead out in 20 ft of water. I usually use a 20 ft mono leader.  With Jointed Rapalas I let out 100ft of lead traveling 2 mph.  I am moving between 20 and 25 ft of water.

My name is HANNA HENRY .I want to give thanks to HAKEEM AHMED for bringing back my ex husband. No one could have ever made me believe that the letter I’m about to write would actually one day be written. I was the world’s biggest skeptic. I never believed in magic spells or anything like this, but I was told by a reliable source (a very close co-worker) that Trust is a very dedicated, gifted, and talented person,It was one of the best things I have ever done. My love life was in shambles; I had been through two divorces and was on the brink of a third. I just couldn’t face another divorce, and I wanted to try harder to make our relationship work, but my husband didn’t seem to care. and he broke up with me again . I was confused and did not know what to do again, rather they got in contact with HAKEEM AHMED. He did a love spell that made my husband come back to me. We are now very much happy with ourselves. HAKEEM AHMED makes him realize how much we love and need each other .This man is for REAL and for good . He can also help you to fix your broken relationship. I had my husband back! It was like a miracle! He suddenly wanted to go to marriage counseling, and we’re doing very, very well , in our love life . contact email [email protected] or text or add him up on whatsApp at: +27788392740 his web page http://astrologerastrology.com

You'll appreciate having less guys in the boat if you need to drag raps.

I love pulling lead core but usually don't pull it out until later in the season.  Can you share depth and speed numbers that were working with lead?  Thanks.

Heading up early Saturday morning. Going to be a short, discombobulated trip this year. Starting with 4 of us but one has to leave to watch his son play in state (WI) baseball tournament on Tuesday. Rest of us are only there until Wednesday. Kind of disappointing but I'm thinking we'll have to make a trip in September as well.    Forecast calls for wind!

Those are cormorants and they are aggressive fish eaters.  I saw more last weekend than typical on vermilion.  Pretty common  on the east end but I don’t usually see much of any on the west which is where we were.  They eat a lot of fish and surprisingly large fish for their size so they aren’t great for the fish populations.     I can’t believe how fast the water warmed up.  We were seeing up to the high 70’s last weekend.  Typically mid June is mid to upper 60’s.  The Muskies didn’t seem to be too fired up with the quick warm up.  The ones we moved were lazy and would not go in to the turn.  Hopefully some more normal temps this week help.
