Has there been anybody out of Big Splithand lately. Would like to know if any eye's are around and if they are in shallow.

Gary,

I am at my wits end... Split has traditionally been my favorite lake since it is so close to the hacienda and will produce a box full. Not the case this year for me. Dead sea. It seems we get caught up in the same old this or that worked here or there before so surely it must do so again. The logic has been defied... I am not giving up by any stretch just good and frustrated at this point.

I am fishing it Friday evening. We shall see.

Sounds like Hill, nothing their either. Good luck on Friday, thought I might sneek out on Saturday. Let me know if things improve. Was there anything going over opener there?

Fishing has been good on splithand. You just have to keep working. There have been alot of walleyes coming out this year.

Thanks Kyle,

would you like to elaborate on that a bit. I have fished it this winter (without sucess) but haven't fished much in the summer. Can you give me a idea where, what depth and what works?

I would use a slip bobber and find the weedlines. 1/8 jig and a shiner or leech. Work the whole lake. Cover alot of ground.

  • 2 weeks later...

My dad has been up at our cabin and said the boats have been at both splithands. I forsure thought that the slot on Big splithand would cause a problem.

What is the slot again on Splithand and have you found many in that slot or have most been the "eater" size?

Bump..

I will be up this weekend for my batchelor party.

Anyone have any updates? My dad said that the locals have been quiet so the fish must be biting!

Anywhere else? Where I could just catch fish?

Realy don't want to go to Winni since none of us have been on it. Want to stay near Grand Rapids, Splithands, Poke, Trout, Bass.

First open water fishing this morning. Planed to go to Clearwater but water was 6 inches over docks. Drove over to Sylvia/Twin and access was great. Water very clear, could see bottom in more than 12 ft.  Caught several sunfish and bass. 2 northerns and a crappie. Most went back including a 9.5 in male sunny. Beautiful fish. Most caught in less than 3 ft water.  Temp was 61.

We are high up on the hill so no worry of water damage, but our electrical box wasn't too far from the rising lake water. I hope that issue doesn't start hitting others as well!

I was up for opening weekend, but only fished Saturday morning. I had a limit by 6:30 so headed back to the cabin to get work done. In about an hour I lost 2 on the way to the boat, boated a 13" that I threw back, and kept a 14, 15, 16, 17. Nice size eaters. Jig and minnow in 15-20 FOW.  Water temps where I was fishing was 41.    I have damage to 2 docks and several trees down. I hope this water level goes down soon! Good luck everyone.

Opener was decent on Saturday and absolutely on fire Sunday. 9 eyes, three over 25 in, one at 28.5. A bunch of largemouths, some crappie and perch and a TON of bullhead. One of those weekends where your hands start to hurt.

I'm quite happy since I'm going fishing with a pal for the first time in a long time. We plan to purchase some clothing for it, such as exclusive hoodies.

The majority of docks can't be put it. Water is over the top of pretty much every permanent dock.  Very few docks are in.

Crappies are all up shallow in the south metro. Caught this one shore fishing with a beetle spin from a more secluded lake without much access. All of the crappies were between 7-9 inches with this 11.5" being the exception
