Great Web site, by the way.

Moved to Duluth/Superior this autumn, and I'm looking for a couple good laker or splake lakes to ice fish. Done a lot of ice fishing, but not for those species. I'm looking for some lakes around Duluth within two hours' drive north and northwest. If anyone can give me the names of a few of those lakes, include distances/direction from nearby towns, I'll use maps to do the rest (except it'd be helpful to get a couple tips on techniques, depths to fish, etc.) Here's the catch. I don't have access to a sled or ATV. That means I either drive on the ice in my full-size 4X4 pickup (not likely), or walk in and tow my Fish Trap II, power auger, etc. I'm willing to work at it a bit, including snowshoeing in, but I'm no athlete any more, so those lakes more than a mile off the road won't work. I'm not after huge fish, just a good time in the woods and a few eaters. Not that I'd mind a trophy splake or big laker, either. Thanks in advance for the help.

Try Echo Lake for splake, NE of Finland about 20 ? miles on Hwy 7. Access is 5'from the road and you fish near shore. Try dead salted minnows or wax worms on crappie jig, small hook or swedish pimple. No live bait. See you there opener.

Thanks for the tips, Mnfisher. Echo it'll be, when I can carve out a day to go. So, the Minn. regs say opener is Jan. 13. Why a Sunday, eh? I work Sunday-Thursday, so I'll have to wait awhile. Nice to know the fishing's close to shore. That Fish Trap gets heavy with gear and a power auger on top. I've got a lot of live fatheads that won't be lively much longer. Can I freeze them and use them dead on Echo? How big are the splake there?

Thanks for the tips Mnfisher. I'm working Jan 13. Why have an opener on a Sunday, I ask you? Anyway, I'll make a day trip to Echo as soon as I can clear a day. Good deal it's close to the road and people fish close to shore. I've got a bunch of fatheads that aren't going to stay lively much longer. Can I freeze them and use them dead on Echo? How big are the splake there?

The 2002 opener is Saturday the 12th. You probably saw the 2001 opener which was the 13th, a Saturday last year, but Sunday this year! I don't know about fatheads. I was told crappie minnows. I used waxie's myself and they worked fine. Good luck!

My name is HANNA HENRY .I want to give thanks to HAKEEM AHMED for bringing back my ex husband. No one could have ever made me believe that the letter I’m about to write would actually one day be written. I was the world’s biggest skeptic. I never believed in magic spells or anything like this, but I was told by a reliable source (a very close co-worker) that Trust is a very dedicated, gifted, and talented person,It was one of the best things I have ever done. My love life was in shambles; I had been through two divorces and was on the brink of a third. I just couldn’t face another divorce, and I wanted to try harder to make our relationship work, but my husband didn’t seem to care. and he broke up with me again . I was confused and did not know what to do again, rather they got in contact with HAKEEM AHMED. He did a love spell that made my husband come back to me. We are now very much happy with ourselves. HAKEEM AHMED makes him realize how much we love and need each other .This man is for REAL and for good . He can also help you to fix your broken relationship. I had my husband back! It was like a miracle! He suddenly wanted to go to marriage counseling, and we’re doing very, very well , in our love life . contact email [email protected] or text or add him up on whatsApp at: +27788392740 his web page http://astrologerastrology.com

I love pulling lead core but usually don't pull it out until later in the season.  Can you share depth and speed numbers that were working with lead?  Thanks.

Heading up early Saturday morning. Going to be a short, discombobulated trip this year. Starting with 4 of us but one has to leave to watch his son play in state (WI) baseball tournament on Tuesday. Rest of us are only there until Wednesday. Kind of disappointing but I'm thinking we'll have to make a trip in September as well.    Forecast calls for wind!

Those are cormorants and they are aggressive fish eaters.  I saw more last weekend than typical on vermilion.  Pretty common  on the east end but I don’t usually see much of any on the west which is where we were.  They eat a lot of fish and surprisingly large fish for their size so they aren’t great for the fish populations.     I can’t believe how fast the water warmed up.  We were seeing up to the high 70’s last weekend.  Typically mid June is mid to upper 60’s.  The Muskies didn’t seem to be too fired up with the quick warm up.  The ones we moved were lazy and would not go in to the turn.  Hopefully some more normal temps this week help.
