SeaBass,
Havn't been up there for three years but we used to troll #7-8 shad raps in about 15' along the south side of the long island that runs out from the Nat'l Forest campground on the east end of the lake. Also always the spillway area can be Ok if there's current (also caught some smallies in that area) coming thru the dam. I also remember a rockpile that was a few hundred yards east of the campground launch, used to slipbobber it in morning/evening. I never did really well, but didnt fish it hard. Good luck, colors should be just starting good. PS: not sure if your a bird hunter but there are alot of trails to walk in that area. Xplorer

Never hurts to check out the current coming from the falls and hydroelectric plant - known locally as "The Power Dam". It is fairly shallow and rocky up close, and gets progressively deeper and smoother the further down current you go. Anchoring is the best bet. Start shallow and work progressively deeper, or vice versa. 'Bout that time of year to go to minnows.

Sea Bass,
Fished Fall last October and did ok. Mostly a jig and minnow bite. Watch out for rocks. Lost a prop and $1500 damage to the hull. Try White Iron if you get a chance. Did very well on eyes there. Joe

Hello All...got back on sunday night from ely. We ended up fishing Basswood and not fall lake, but thanks again to all those who responded.

The fishing on Basswood was tough. I think the lakes are starting to turn. We did mark lots of bait and fish, but only managed to bring in a few eye's and a couple pike. Fish were takin on jigs and minnows off of reefs, in anywhere from 20 to 40 feet of water. Our best luck was in Jackfish bay, but local reports said that the prairie portage side had the best fishing. (If you can get a permit for that side) Thanks Again.
