We were going to take boat to the lake yesterday, but as I went to grease the zerks, i saw that the bearingbuddy equivalent had completely fallen off one of my wheels. Probably wouldn't have been good to back into water.

Therefore I took Natalie and went fishing at sandpits lastnight. Action was slow at first. Caught a few crappies on paddletail under a float.

I then tried a mimic minow and caught a few crappies on that and a 3 1/2 pound bass.

Then at sunset there was a flurry of activity. Natalie caught crappies on a paddletail. I switched to an itty bitty shiner minnow rapala and caught a few crappies on that. A few 8" bass would jump onto it as well. As the night wore on and the crappies died down I got a 2 and 3 1/2 lb bass so i decided to call it quits and head home. While I did get some bass, I wasn't fishing for them --- unlike the guy who was there throwing a 6" firetiger crankbait. He claimed he heard there were walleye and northerns in that northernmost sandpit.... uh huh.

The bass definately are late prespawn and almost spawn. The big female/male pairs are crusing the shore line looking for spawning site and gobbling up food in amongst the rocks.

All night we would here a thrash and see a muddy spot on shoreline where a bass had thrashed and dug something out of 3" of water.

WC.....Take second street southwest fowards Country Club Manor. Just past the fire station ( right side) yopu will see a large fenced in parking lot (Mayo's). Right behing that lots is one of the pits. The other is behind that one. Both are good choices. Don't park inside the enclosure, but snug you vehicle over along the gravel there and walk back.

Fishermans Inn on Lake Zumbro has a public fishing pier. Take broadway north out of Rocester to the yellow flashing light, about 10 miles (Co.Rd.12). Go left for three miles and then right at the top of the hill after crossing the bridge. Follow this road to the very end. Fish on the left side pier.

Foster Ahrendts offers some shore fishing but it can be notoriously slow. But there is a beach there and they can swim!

Has anyone here had any luck on Rice Lake yet this year? All that rain a couple of weeks ago made the water level go way up and fishing opener for us was a complete bust ( although apparently someone on the lake caught a 31" walleye according to a DNR officer).   I'll be up there for at least part of the long weekend this weekend. Looking forward to some fishing. I'm contemplating targeting the bay that Morning Star Resort is on for some walleye. I don't claim to be an expert in fishing or fish behavior but it's early season so shallower seems to be better than deeper dropoffs like we would normally target during the summer. Forecasts I've seen suggest targeting bays too. Anyone have thoughts on that?   Good luck to anyone out there this weekend! Hopefully the fishing is back to normal after the weird start to the season.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?
