I am planning a camping trip to Gooseberry Falls State Park north of Duluth,MN in late August. I want to shore fish Lake Superior for Lake Trout and or Salmon or whatever else may be in the area (Walleye?, Pike?). I may fish in the Gooseberry River for trout also. I need info on tackle, lures, baits, and techniques.
I would appreciate any help.

I just fished superior for the first time this spring and had no luck...the water was running very, very high and the mouths of rivers looked like someone was mixing chocolate milk into the lake.....anyway, talk to the guys at marine general, they can get you started ((218) 724-8833). What I was told was to use weighted floaters and a fly, yarn, spawn sacks, or wax worms. Another option is spinners but keep in mind, you can't use trouble hooks within 100 yards of the mouth of a river. I used a 7 foot spinning rod but most of the regulars up there use 9 or 10' shore fishing rods with 20# test line...I just didn't want to spend the money....Hip boots or waders are also helpful...sorry I couldn't give you more expert advice.
