stuart river fishing

i am headed up to bwca for my first time and i was wondering if anyone had any advice of where and how to fish for walleyes, bass, and pike. we are starting out at the stuart river

There are walleye, northern and smallmouth in Stuart.

Great walleye fishing in Iron Lake, up along the border.

Try Boulder Bay for good walleye and northern pike and some real nice campsites.

Walleyes prefer ambushing their prey in the dark. They do not care for light. If it's windy, they will be more likely to be in less than 15 feet of water - depending on water clarity. In rivers, they tend eat more often. Look for softball to basketball size boulders in deep calm spots, just off the current. Look for changes in the bottom - such as underwater humps and dropoffs, rock to sand, or weeds to rock - fish the points of change. I tend to stick around the shadows in early morning fishing. In the evening, the fish tend to move in from the big water to shallower areas to feed. The smallmouth will be lurking nearby. The northerns will invade your privacy anytime they want!
As for tackle: A medium/light rod/reel with 6-8lb test TrileneXL for the river, 6lb for a lake. The Blue/Silver, black/silver, gold/silver, and perch colored 3-4" Rapala are the best in my experiences. Along with a few spinners, spoons, and Rapalas, you will want to bring brown, black, chartreuse, and orange twisters with yellow, black and pink jigheads, ranging from 1/8 to 3/8 oz, (mostly 1/4 oz). The best fishing is at dusk and early morning. On rivers, you have more opportunity throughout the day. Good Luck!
