I am heading to my buddies new place in Pillager and he wants to fish Shamineau. Any advice on this lake?

Thanks,

EJ

I will also be fishing this lake with my Dad on Dad's Day. I've never fished it before so I have no pointers for you. Maybe someone else on here can help us out smile.gif

I have a cabin on the west end of the lake, and my parents have been on the lake for nearly 30 years. It is a great lake for bass & northerns, but it is tough to find the walleyes. There are LOTS in the lake, and they are quite large, its just difficult to find/catch them. Perhaps someone with better fishing ablilities than myself can give you some advice.

The best advice that anyone could give you would be to fish at night if you are fishing for walleyes. The water clarity is approaching 18 feet and needless to say, they are tough to find during daylight hours especially on clear days. In front of Auger's resort is a bar that sticks out and this is a great area to focus on at night. Near the island is another good spot since there is a big flat on the West side that runs in the 8' range, great trolling area at night.

During the day you could find the fish on the deep weed edges, but I find night fishing much easier.

Due to high amount of recreational boating and clear water, early morning or after dark fishing is about the only option. Another spot is a deep hole just south and west of camp Shamineau. Good luck.

Thanks for all the info! Could anyone point me in the right direction for a good weedline or two on the lake? I have to make it a day trip, early morning til noon or so to be precise and I would like to show my Dad a nice walleye or maybe even sway him into Muskie fishing. He's a pretty good bass fisherman so if we could get on some weeds, we should find some fish. Thanks for any input!

There is weedline that starts on the west end by the access and goes most of the way down the north shore.

Has anyone here had any luck on Rice Lake yet this year? All that rain a couple of weeks ago made the water level go way up and fishing opener for us was a complete bust ( although apparently someone on the lake caught a 31" walleye according to a DNR officer).   I'll be up there for at least part of the long weekend this weekend. Looking forward to some fishing. I'm contemplating targeting the bay that Morning Star Resort is on for some walleye. I don't claim to be an expert in fishing or fish behavior but it's early season so shallower seems to be better than deeper dropoffs like we would normally target during the summer. Forecasts I've seen suggest targeting bays too. Anyone have thoughts on that?   Good luck to anyone out there this weekend! Hopefully the fishing is back to normal after the weird start to the season.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?
