Cards keep rolling without Rolen!

There looking good thus far. It's early yet but I like the fact there pulling away from the division and were only in the 3rd week of May. Starting rotation has been fantastic.

Mulder, Morris, Carpenter, Marquis and Suppan need to keep cranking out those quality starts. Isringhausen is 9 for 9 in save opportunities.

Anybody catch that segment on Sportcenter the other day about Pujhols involvement with Down Syndrome charities? Brought a tear to my eye. Class guy!

As a Cubbie fan, gotta say that I hope the wheels fall off the Cardinals soon. That would stop them from "rolling".

Gene I want to thank the cubbies for Mark Grudzielanek he's put up some awesome numbers this season and has made the redbirds forget Tony Womack quickly. Mulder, Eckstein and Grudz have all performed great.

Yeah, I was kinda sad to see him go. When they got him from the Dodgers I wasn't too excited but he proved to be a very solid hitter and fielder. Guess they are still hoping on the left-handed bat of Todd Walker at 2nd base but I'm also sure money and age had something to do with their decision to let Grudz go.

How do the Cards do it? They get all the good players. First Rolen, then Walker, now Grudz. They must sell alot of beer for Mr. Busch to be able to afford all these guys and have LaRussa and Duncan too.

Walt Jockety just keeps bringing in good players I don't know how he does it. One thing I will say about the baseball fans in St. Louis is they make you feel at home. The first game Grudz had at home he booted a ball and when he made his first trip to the plate to bat the Cardinal fans gave him a 3 minute standing ovation. It's one of the premier places to play and because the fans and media support the team and don't tear it down every day it's refreshing to be a player in St. Louis because they can relax and just play ball. Marquis looked like crap yesterday walks and base hit to death now on to Kansas City for some inter league play naturally will be looking to sweep them the Royals look pretty bad. You guys got a tall order against the Chi Sox it should be one of the better series.

I gotta say what if? What if Matt Morris was healthy in last years fall classic or Chris Carpenter, would that have made a difference in the world series? I don't know but if these horses with Mulder and Suppan stay healthy will it be the difference they lacked last season. They have to pitch one game at home in St.Louis with Marquis starting, he's hitting like .375 and went yard his last start. Heck sometimes Tony pinch hits with Marquis off the bench, he's an athlete. He's a ham and egger as far as pitching goes, not nasty but gutsy.

Whom will the Cardinals play in the world series I wonder? Will it be the White Sox, Baltimore, Anaheim excuse me Los Angeles maybe Minnesota hmmm?. Who will make it to the dance in the American League?

Anybody catch that Cards game last night, see that play Grudz made man he doesn't look like he's on the downhill side of his career or how about David Eckstein 3-5 with a triple and 3 rbi. Renteria O-4 and hit in to two double plays and an error. Matt Morris was devastating and if Sanders had not mis played that fly ball we'd be talking a 4 hit shut out complete game. Suppan will have his hands full with Clement tonight he's been awesome for the Red Sox, don't know why the Cubs let him go with the problems there having with Wood and Prior. And just think in 10 to 14 days Scott Rolen will be back, shudder the thought.

You wont have to worry about the White Sox being in that mix wink.gif

It does look like the Cards are the favorites for the National League. Yanks, 'Red' Sox, or Twins are the favorites for the American League.

Cards and Twins would actually be a great series to watch.

I hope it's the Red Sox just for some payback., hopefully will break out the brooms today and sweep em. Last night 5 players got beaned. I look at the AL East and I believe Baltimore will be able to pull away eventually. The Red Sox have A) no starting pitching what so ever and B) If Manny aint hot there done. Varitek cannot carry this team by himself. The Yankees are a couple losses away from cashing in the season. George can't take it and I can't blame him one bit. Those guys are raking in the cash with absolutely nothing to show for it. Good pitching by Pavano last night and they still can't score and they left the bases loaded twice. It's just pitiful. There more concerned about how they can lose a game versus how to win it. Giambi is a laughing stock and Brown's a psycho. You bring all that high priced talent in and overlook the most important characteristic of a player and that's heart. Paul O'Neil, Jim Leyritz, Scott Brosiuos all played with heart. They need to get back some of that mid 90's swagger quick or George will be dumping these guys quick. The sad part about is there's nobody in there right mind that would take any of there players.

Anyhow on that Cards and Twins series that would be an interesting series... Nightmares still cascade in my mind from time to time of homer hankies. Viola was awesome for you guys!

And the 85 series with the Royals and the infamous Don Denkinger call at first that sealed the Cards fate.

Last year the Cards were just happy to be there. This year I think and feel this is a more determined Cardinal team it shows.

Rolen finally has been able to take full swings in the batting cage the last 3 days so Tony will have him in the line-up today. It will be interesting to see if he DH's Scott or he will be starting at third. Either way it's just nice to have him back. Edmond rib/muscle pull isn't getting much better so they will wait and see. There 18 games over .500 and the Cubs haven't been threatening as of late so Tony's priority should be to keep everyone healthy. Scott Seabol has been a decent call up for them and Taguchi has been hitting of late. Nunez has been fantastic as there main utility guy and John Mabry has been very steady.

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
