Cards keep rolling without Rolen!

There looking good thus far. It's early yet but I like the fact there pulling away from the division and were only in the 3rd week of May. Starting rotation has been fantastic.

Mulder, Morris, Carpenter, Marquis and Suppan need to keep cranking out those quality starts. Isringhausen is 9 for 9 in save opportunities.

Anybody catch that segment on Sportcenter the other day about Pujhols involvement with Down Syndrome charities? Brought a tear to my eye. Class guy!

As a Cubbie fan, gotta say that I hope the wheels fall off the Cardinals soon. That would stop them from "rolling".

Gene I want to thank the cubbies for Mark Grudzielanek he's put up some awesome numbers this season and has made the redbirds forget Tony Womack quickly. Mulder, Eckstein and Grudz have all performed great.

Yeah, I was kinda sad to see him go. When they got him from the Dodgers I wasn't too excited but he proved to be a very solid hitter and fielder. Guess they are still hoping on the left-handed bat of Todd Walker at 2nd base but I'm also sure money and age had something to do with their decision to let Grudz go.

How do the Cards do it? They get all the good players. First Rolen, then Walker, now Grudz. They must sell alot of beer for Mr. Busch to be able to afford all these guys and have LaRussa and Duncan too.

Walt Jockety just keeps bringing in good players I don't know how he does it. One thing I will say about the baseball fans in St. Louis is they make you feel at home. The first game Grudz had at home he booted a ball and when he made his first trip to the plate to bat the Cardinal fans gave him a 3 minute standing ovation. It's one of the premier places to play and because the fans and media support the team and don't tear it down every day it's refreshing to be a player in St. Louis because they can relax and just play ball. Marquis looked like crap yesterday walks and base hit to death now on to Kansas City for some inter league play naturally will be looking to sweep them the Royals look pretty bad. You guys got a tall order against the Chi Sox it should be one of the better series.

I gotta say what if? What if Matt Morris was healthy in last years fall classic or Chris Carpenter, would that have made a difference in the world series? I don't know but if these horses with Mulder and Suppan stay healthy will it be the difference they lacked last season. They have to pitch one game at home in St.Louis with Marquis starting, he's hitting like .375 and went yard his last start. Heck sometimes Tony pinch hits with Marquis off the bench, he's an athlete. He's a ham and egger as far as pitching goes, not nasty but gutsy.

Whom will the Cardinals play in the world series I wonder? Will it be the White Sox, Baltimore, Anaheim excuse me Los Angeles maybe Minnesota hmmm?. Who will make it to the dance in the American League?

Anybody catch that Cards game last night, see that play Grudz made man he doesn't look like he's on the downhill side of his career or how about David Eckstein 3-5 with a triple and 3 rbi. Renteria O-4 and hit in to two double plays and an error. Matt Morris was devastating and if Sanders had not mis played that fly ball we'd be talking a 4 hit shut out complete game. Suppan will have his hands full with Clement tonight he's been awesome for the Red Sox, don't know why the Cubs let him go with the problems there having with Wood and Prior. And just think in 10 to 14 days Scott Rolen will be back, shudder the thought.

You wont have to worry about the White Sox being in that mix wink.gif

It does look like the Cards are the favorites for the National League. Yanks, 'Red' Sox, or Twins are the favorites for the American League.

Cards and Twins would actually be a great series to watch.

I hope it's the Red Sox just for some payback., hopefully will break out the brooms today and sweep em. Last night 5 players got beaned. I look at the AL East and I believe Baltimore will be able to pull away eventually. The Red Sox have A) no starting pitching what so ever and B) If Manny aint hot there done. Varitek cannot carry this team by himself. The Yankees are a couple losses away from cashing in the season. George can't take it and I can't blame him one bit. Those guys are raking in the cash with absolutely nothing to show for it. Good pitching by Pavano last night and they still can't score and they left the bases loaded twice. It's just pitiful. There more concerned about how they can lose a game versus how to win it. Giambi is a laughing stock and Brown's a psycho. You bring all that high priced talent in and overlook the most important characteristic of a player and that's heart. Paul O'Neil, Jim Leyritz, Scott Brosiuos all played with heart. They need to get back some of that mid 90's swagger quick or George will be dumping these guys quick. The sad part about is there's nobody in there right mind that would take any of there players.

Anyhow on that Cards and Twins series that would be an interesting series... Nightmares still cascade in my mind from time to time of homer hankies. Viola was awesome for you guys!

And the 85 series with the Royals and the infamous Don Denkinger call at first that sealed the Cards fate.

Last year the Cards were just happy to be there. This year I think and feel this is a more determined Cardinal team it shows.

Rolen finally has been able to take full swings in the batting cage the last 3 days so Tony will have him in the line-up today. It will be interesting to see if he DH's Scott or he will be starting at third. Either way it's just nice to have him back. Edmond rib/muscle pull isn't getting much better so they will wait and see. There 18 games over .500 and the Cubs haven't been threatening as of late so Tony's priority should be to keep everyone healthy. Scott Seabol has been a decent call up for them and Taguchi has been hitting of late. Nunez has been fantastic as there main utility guy and John Mabry has been very steady.

The majority of docks can't be put it. Water is over the top of pretty much every permanent dock.  Very few docks are in.

Crappies are all up shallow in the south metro. Caught this one shore fishing with a beetle spin from a more secluded lake without much access. All of the crappies were between 7-9 inches with this 11.5" being the exception

A co-worker reported they had some the best fishing ever on V last weekend.  Trolling 6-8 feet in the morning with HJ10’s.  Where the water temps were in the mid/low 50’s

Those campsites are right across the water from us. Seem pretty well protected and I haven't heard of challenging over there. Holiday weekends they fill up very fast

My son camped on Hinsdale with his aluminum runabout. Nice site but walking across the hull parked on uneven ground he separated a couple of the rivets.

Thanks "Skunked Again!" I searched old posts and it sounds like my fiberglass boat might not be the best rig for Hinsdale. Still, would appreciate more advice/input.

I don't know about either of them, but welcome to the forum.

I destroyed my main propeller saving a neighbors dock section from ramming my other neighbor's dock. Definitely watch out for each other out there.   Raven77 - on the plus side of the high water, the floating swim platform that you sold me the other year was able to just float off of the rocks that I had beached it on. No need to do any heavy lifting this season! I'm glad that I tied it to a tree as usual.

On the south end...  A great 2022 MN Fishing Opener for most anglers.  The walleyes and saugers are hungry and the bite is on!  Good numbers of fish caught. Lots of big fish amongst the eaters.  Most anglers were vertically jigging in 6' - 20'.  Anchor up and jig over the side of the boat.  A nice mix of sizes.   The water is a bit dirty on the east portion of the south shore due to runoff from the rivers.  A bright jig with a minnow is the most productive. Reports were also good from the west portion of the south shore.  A bit cleaner water and equally good bite.  Lots of big fish mixed in with eaters.  Some anglers fishing on structure or on the edge of structure where available. On the Rainy River...   A lot of walleyes in the river as predicted, but the current is ripping and the water is a bit dirty.  Those who found slack water often found fish.  The norm was 6' - 15' with a bright jig and minnow.   Typical spots in the main channel were tough to fish due to high current.  The fast moving water helped to congregate fish.  Once you found them, there were normally good numbers. Sturgeon fishing is closed until July 1st.  July 1 - Sep 30 is a sturgeon keep season with one fish per calendar year 45" - 50" or over 75". Up at the NW Angle...  A great jig bite up at the Angle for the opener.  Most fish were caught in 6' - 20' adjacent shoreline structure, neckdown areas and on some shallow flats. Again, a jig and minnow was by far the most common method vertically jigged below the boat.  With cold water, a subtle presentation.  Both fatheads and frozen shiners worked well. Various ways to travel to the Angle. 1.  Drive through Canada to the Angle  (must be vaccinated, no covid test required) 2.  LOW Passenger Service (charter boat service across the lake avoiding customs)  3.  Lake Country Air.(fly from various Midwest locations to LOW and NW Angle) 4.  Take your own boat.  (Safety first, this is a 40 mile ride over big water)

Greetings all! Our group (two boats/five guys) is looking at fishing/camping trip based at Hinsdale Island Campground or Wake 'Em Up Bay Campground in about 3 weeks.  Can anyone advise about Hinsdale, especially the shoreline for landing boats? (Is it sandy or rocky? Mostly protected?) We're also wondering how busy both campgrounds are? We've stayed at Wake Em Up,  but that was 6-8 years ago and it was mostly empty...just the host and 2-3 others. Nowadays, do either or both fill up on June weekends? (We'd probably arrive on a Saturday, stay most of the week.) Of course, we also welcome suggestions for walleye techniques, depths, etc. We tend to fish smallies during the day and chase eyes in the evening.  Thanks in advance for your help!
