BWCA Fishing ?

A small group of us are heading into BWCA on June 2nd. Weve caught many Smallies, Walleyes, and Northerns in the past two years. Our tactics are getting better every year but we still need to learn the right presentations.
>We are entering the BWCA via Fall Lake and will fish Newton Lake, Pipestone
and Jackfish Bays in Basswood. Where can we be most successful and with what presentations?
>When do the Walleyes Spawn?
>How can we catch Lake Trout?
What other nice portage lakes can we enter with wheels?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The walleyes will have spawned by the time you begin your trip. You still will want to look in any current area for walleyes. Pipestone Falls is a popular and productive spot. Minnows should work well and leeches will also begin being productive at this time of year. 1/4 to 3/8 oz jigs will be your best bet. You may also try shallower bays this time of year. Try trolling floating rapalas in weedy bays. Good for both Northern and Walleye this time of year.

There are no lake trout in the areas you are fishing. Basswood does have lake trout but mostly in the northern, central, and eastern parts of the lake. Pipestone and Jackfish bay are shallower on average than other parts of the lake. These bays are also stained water.
