Turkey hunting out of a blind

Recommended Posts

I am new to turkey hunting, this is my first year. My season starts this Friday. I bought a doghouse blind. The blind has camo netting over the windows. My question is while in the blind do I keep the netting up and then try to drop the netting when I shoot? (i'm shotgun hunting). If I leave the netting down on the blind should I wear netting over my face? Should I wear netting over my face as well as leave the netting up on the windows? Please advise, thanks for your input.

I just got the same blind and used it this weekend to bow hunt out of I think the safey disclaimer in the blind says that the netting is made to shot arrows (fixed blades) through. I don't think that you are to shot a gun through them at all. I would use the open portholes to shoot through.

Depends, if you dont care about buying new netting keep it up and shoot through it. Otherwise, keep it down and cover your face and body. You will still have to keep movement down to a minimum.

I found in late season blinds do not work very well. That could just be me though.

For using a shotgun I would suggest wearing clothes and face netting that matches the inside of you blind. When it comes to shooting put the netting down and make sure your barrel is outside of the blind. If you shoot with the barrel inside the blind you may get your ears rung from the blast echoing around inside the blind.

In my double bull i always keep the netting down to keep the birds from seeing my shadow with the ports open.I dont know if you will be able to close the windows with a turkey very close without him seeing your movement.I usually hunt with a bow and shoot through the window netting as the replacement cost is pretty cheap. If your barrell is not to far from the netting i wouldnt be afraid to shoot through it. Just buy new netting.

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
