How long does it take for steroids to get out of your system, so you can pass the tests that screen for it?

My guess is about 3 knee surgeries long.

Something is defintely up with Bondsy. He's has got to be the biggest joke of a pro athlete, well, ever. Running his son out to take the reporters heat, not doing anymore press conferences letting the public know about his "knee Injuries"??? What a joke, in my mind ROger Maris still holds the MLB single season home run record with 61. Oh yeah-- that Mcgwire guy is a joke also. I wonder how many home runs Bondsy will hit when he comes back... if he comes back when he's steriod free????

I think the roids are catching up with him, or should I say, lack of roids. He's not taking them anymore so his body is breaking down. I highly doubt he'll be back this year if ever. At least Ruth's and especialy Hank's records should be safe from this cheater. I also consider Maris the record holder for what it's worth.

or, he could be breaking down because he's 40 something

Are you trying to be a Bonds aplologist?..lol

The guy is/has been so juiced it is so obvious. Look at photos of him as time progressed, it's so blatent it's sickening. Why do you think he shaved off all his body hair a few years ago? So a reporter wouldnt nab a strand from his locker, have it tested and have it come up positive.

If you really think Bonds was not knowingly on roids, I have 300 feet of lakeshore on Minnetonka I'll sell you for $1 a foot.

The guy is a lying fraud and I'll never accept him as one of the greatest.

Don't sugar coat it gg, tell us how you really feel...lol! I agree BTW...

GG, I'm with you here, man, he's a juicer, but just to play devil's advocate: Where do you stand on his records being upheld? You said that you will never respect him as one of the greatest, but it's become pretty clear that alot of pitchers out there in this era are juicing as well, so doesn't two wrongs make his accomplishments at least slightly legitimate here?

I always waffle back and forth on this, so I'm just curious to hear the views of others ...

well, consider hypothetically for argumets sake that he went up against 1000 pitchers over his career. Out of that 1000, lets just say 25% were juiced, the other 75% were not.

Now, we'll never know, but my guess would be that he hit 75%-80% of his stats off of those who were not roided up. That's still a huge disadvantage in my book.

I don't see how you can do anything about it. There's been an awful lot of talk about that huge home run Bucky Dent hit in Fenway in the 70's coming with a corked bat. Who knows what other things guys got away with without getting caught. They just have to try to stop things as they recognize them, you can't go back. It's kind of like stripping all these Conference Championships, Final Fours, etc. in the NCAA's. The games were already played, what now there was no champion a particular year?

No, you can't go back, but you can place an asterisk behind the record saying "Accomplished with the aid of performance enhancing substances" Which I would be ok with. Then when kids 20 years from now look in the record books and see Bonds at the top of the list they will know he got there by cheating the system.

That tends to be my line of thinking as well. If you wanted the home run record to be fair, I sure as heck wouldn't give it to McGwire, and Maris played in more games than Ruth, so what's fair? I think Bonds is a great ball player. I would have loved to have seen what he would have done without cheating.

If they become knowledgeable baseball fans they'll know anyway. In light of Maris having had that asterisk for so many years, I don't think this one would be much better. I don't think that roids do anything for your eye or your batspeed.

I think the asterisk thing is a joke. First of all, there is no way to prove he was juiced for all or part of his career. Second, if you're going to do use this system for the home run record, you have to be cautious with every record.

Plus, where the heck does the asterisk go anyway? Who reads an actual record book anymore?

no, but recovery time from injuries, minor aches and pains and added strength all add up.

As far as what he would have done without the roids? Maybe 500 HR's which still would have put him in the hall, but I would take Mays, Ruth, Killebrew, Arron and a whole slough of others before I'd take Bonds.

innocent until proven guilty... isn't that the saying? I love to watch Bonds even before he came to SF. Who knows maybe he did maybe he didn't. The comment look at his growth over the years big deal over the last 5 years look at my growth I have gone from 170 to 220 just eating grin.gif I am not fat (my fiance will tell ya different) but as you get older weight gain seems easier. If I wanted to lift more I could turn that into muscle in a few weeks and I probably would weigh 220 still slim down a little but the mass is still there cause muscle weighs more than fat.

To the comment on roids can't make a guy have better hand eye coordination to hit. True but how many hr's cleared the fence by 1-20ft added power to clear the fence they would have been at the fence but now go over!!

Regardless of roids or not it has been fun watching Bonds at bat not only does he kill the ball his patience is unbelievable!!! You can't teach that the guy knows what is coming at him regardless of the HR's his ability to make contact or lay off a pitch is amazing.

I love watching Bonds even though the cards are stacked against him I hope he can prove his inocence and he comes back to crush the records!!! Just my opinion..

i don't get it GG,

you defend Rincon for getting caught with steroids, but you blast Bonds (whats the difference)

Yeah i defend Bonds, probably because i grew up collecting all of his baseball cards, I don't agree with everything he does, but i sure enjoy watching him hit

My take on Bonds is this probably the best hitter the game has seen in the last 50 or so years, cant think of a guy that can walk so many times and yet when you pitch to him he kills ya.As far as the roids go,I think it is so rampit in all pro sports that he probably just goes along with the crowd.Cant wait till they start testing all the russians and europeans in hockey.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
