Rincon, steroids

Thing with their whole drug policy is that they don't name the substance. He could have had an OMEGA energy drink and then been whacked as it has some different herbal ingredients that are banned in the league. It's an odd situation considering that some of the banned substances can be legally purchased at GNC.

Boy the excuses are flying in Twinkie-town. He got caught, fair and square. And as for the excuse of "hitting more homeruns" when they screened the minor leagues for steriod use there were many more pitchers who were on the juice than position players. Admit it, your guy cheated and he got caught. Take your 10 games like a man and move on. End of story. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD....YES. Windy

darn! It looks like that sportshake I mix up before heading out on Lake Minnetonka is going to have to go! I'd hate to get banned from the circuit. grin.gif

OMG Windy, you, as a ChiSox fan should not be pointing fingers on doping. Your former SP Loaiza was rumoured to be on the juice and fell from grace after he quit. Let alone Franky-boy Thomas.

Glass houses my man . . .

Guys, you gotta go a little easy on Windy. I have been reading all the posts for the last month or so, just biding my time. But now I have to jump in. And Back'er Up as well. These guys love to mix it up and they only have, what a couple of months before the Pale hose are out of it? Then they got nothing to say about the Twins. So let them have their moment in the sun, cuz we all know their lead will evaporate and they will fade like they always do. THEN you will see them reaching for their obscure stats. Something like....the Sox closer has walked less people per 9 innings on moonlit nights after a rainstorm on games played on turf than Joe Nathan.

As for Rincon, the Twins pride themselves for being squeaky clean...thus I would be surprised if Rincon stays with the team for long. Prolly through this year, but the Twins are more than any one individual player. Any one individual can do something stupid, but the Twins franchise will continue to be a classy organization. Do you ever see the Twins pursue guys like Carl Everett? Nope.

granted that he is not using roids to hit homers but it will put around 4-8 mph on his fastball. That right there could mean everything for him!! But untill his press meeting who knows maybe he was caught with the illegal substance of Marijuana?? grin.gifblush.gifcool.gifsmirk.gif

If it was anything other than performance enhancing drugs, he would have appeal options and it wouldnt have been an immediate suspension, thus according to Reusse's article, it is 'roids.

It's not even about a little extra speed on the fastball...for middle relievers, it's about being able to recover their strength to be able to pitch three straight days or four out of five days. It's about recovery time moreso than raw strength.

If just using roids could add 4-8mph on a fastball, everyone and their brother in AAA that used roids would be promoted to MLB. Having huge arms does not make you throw harder. Sometimes working out too much can have negative effects on a pitchers arm. He was taking whatever he was taking to recover faster, which is still cheating none the less. That sucks because middle relief is where we are the shakiest.

Correct and it was steroids he took this past summer that were still in his system.

The suspension will have nothing to do with getting rid of Rincon. That will be determined by his pitching and pitching ONLY.

I think it may...or it may not. You remember Alan Page and Bud Grant getting into it? Shortly thereafter Chicago paid us a paltry sum for him. Ryan and Gardy have a similar mentality. Classy organizations have a way of avoiding players that tarnish their image. It wont be right away, but my vote is that he doesnt retire as a Twin.

You guys are so quick to judge.....

Like JP said, it could have been something that you, I or a lot of other people take and have no idea they are steroid precursers.

Heck, many alergy meds are steroid based, maybe that's what got him busted, who knows? I think they said that MLB only named the banned substances, not what products contained them, so it could have been an honest mistake.

Until the substance is named, it's all speculation and we should reserve jugement until then.

Shorelunch,

Wow are you reaching or what? Loiza, never proven to use the juice. And as for the Big Hurt, he was a 260 lb tightend in college. He is a huge advocate against steriods so to accuse him is laughable, but most thoughts of Twinkie-lovers usually are laughable. Fact, your guy got caught. End of story. Take your punishment like a man and move on. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy

My fave quote out of this whole deal was by Hunter.. "There is no way I am testing positive for anything except red bull, and I'm even scared to drink that." or something like that...

Actually Windy, the Loazia info is from a good source. Another one of your P's that was on the juice was Billy Koch. There's no argument there - talk about a velocity drop. Both of them used roids to help with recovery time.

And I guess, Roid-con doubling his strikeouts to batters faced in one year was just "protein shakes" huh? Once again, you don't quote your "source". Speculation upon speculation, stack it as high as you like it is still a pile of feces. Fact, your guy got caught. Source, MLB. End of story. How bout a little cheese with that whine? Take your 10 days like a man and move on. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD...YES! Windy

Geeze Windy....

He's a young pitcher. It is completely natural for his totals to improve as he gains expierience. What, do you think a pitcher just appears out of thin air..."POOF" there ya go, a 20 game winner with 250 K's in his rookie year and he's going to stay that way for 15 seasons...gimme a break!!!

Even the greats took 2 or 3 years to get respectable numbers. Nolan Ryan was even sent down a couple times in his first few years with the Angels. Very few pitchers if any are at a peak when they first get into the league. Take the Eck for example. He was a starting pitcher for a LONG TIME before he was made into a closer and developed into one of the best closers of all time...oh, but wait, he was on the A's so he MUST have been shooting up with Big Mac and Canseco!!...LOL

Gull,

Tap dance all you want. Put all the lipstick you want on that pig...it's still a pig. FACT...RINCON GOT CAUGHT. SOURCE...MLB. Case closed. Are you twinkie-eaters going to whine for the entire 10 day suspension or do any of you know how to shut up and take your punishment. If you were Johnny Fontaine and I was Don Corleone, I would slap your face and tell you to "act like a man". Now that Roid-con got caught, let's see what his strikeouts to batters faced does over the next year or so. My guess is it will shrink like Slammy's homer total did after he got off the juice with the Cubbies. YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD....YES!

UH-OHHH,

Buzz gets sent to the principals office. No dessert for Buzzie tonight! When I am debating Buzz and the rest of the twinkie-lovers, most of the time I am having a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
