WHAT's IT SPELL???

SWEEP

Hey Buzz, get out the O'Cedar my man. OK, so it is only a whisk broom (2 game series) but a sweep is a sweep.

Got to love my Pale Hose, just keep SPANKIN' THAT TWINKIE ARSE!

Who's your daddy? EL DUQUE !

In all seriousness buzz, I hope that Brad Radke's neck is ok after the way it spun around 180 degrees to watch Konerko's homer land 410 feet into center field. He's tough, a little Ben-Gay should work wonders.

HEY BACKHERUP....GOT YOUR EARS ON GOOD BUDDY? Hate to say I told you so with Maggs but looks like we made the right decision for now. Hope you turn it around, you owe those Twinkies a little retribution. Later boys, and as usual...

YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOARD.....YES!

Like "Da Coach" my beloved Mike Ditka said, "Living in the past is for Losers" and as Janet Jackson said, "What have you done for me lately?"

A sweep is a sweep! Congrats to the southside brats! It was sooo frustrating outhitting you guys only to leave so many darn runners on base.

I'm not worried, all we needed was one or two clutch hits either night and it would have been sweep the other way around.... if you would have spanked us like 8-1 both nights I would have felt like the Twins are actually going to have competition in the Central division. Besides now we get Morneau and Silva back and that should make a difference.

P.S. Cuddyer and Punto left 489 guys on base last night! wink.gif

Windy,

What were the Twinks down at the break last year?

How far did the Sox get ahead of them early last year?

That said, if Guillen has really instilled a new attitude there, I believe we are in for a heck of a race. Here is to hoping that when the Big Hurt comes back he comes back with the same old clubhouse poison he and your Sox are known for and they fall apart....again.

Somehow I feel like the Twins outplayed the Sox and still got swept. Nonetheless, Windy, congrats, and enjoy your moment. Letting the Pale Hose have their early season hopes is a rite of spring in Minnesota. As Jacque Jones said after last night's game: "Look around here. Do we look worried?"

I'll have to say congrats too, although I think like Buzz said, a few clutch hits and we would have swept you. Chicago does look like a different team this year and hopefully they can at least make it interesting this year. Unlike past years where it's over about a month before the season ends. tongue.gif

I'm with the last three guys on pretty much all comments. Kudos to the Sox on the sweep. I like the way Guillen approaches things, but I wouldn't make too much of it & am not worried either. We just didn't hit in the clutch the last couple of games, the pitching was good enough to win, the hitting wasn't. We're not a great hitting team & we're primarily a singles hitting team, so we will have games where we don't string enough together to score much, but we'll still win a pile of games with our pitching & defense.

hows that saying go again...dont count your chickens before they hatch...

I not sure I would be TOO confident this EARLY in the season(14 games). Last I looked a season is a 162 games.

But then again it was a sweep at home(2 games!), and you didnt face the best pitcher in the league. I would be more concerned about your closing pitchers, they looked a little shaky in the 9th.

Until then, I will sit back and watch all of the Tori Hunter and Jacque Jones highlights over and over again from last night.

"Hope we can turn it around"??? ahahahahah, I love it...

I think its safe to say that we can put your broom away. The sox did well but not good enough to win those games in my eyes and looks like a few others. Cant wait til we play them later this season.

Hey Guys,

With the exception of Kowalleyski, I got to give you props and say, "Way to Cowboy Up" and take your lumps. True, a two game sweep is less satisfying than a 3 or 4 but you take what you can get. It seemed like last year the Sox would outhit the Twinkies but fall short on the scoring end. It seems like the teams have switched so far this year and our pitching is really good, so far. So I will take the congrats and keep my fingers crossed with each game. We did feast on the kittys tonight. If Backherup is out there, let me say, like Michael said to Sonny, "It's not personal Sonny, it's just business". Nighty nite, fellas. Windy

ESPN has their first power rankings out since the season began. White Sox are at #2 on the list, with the Twins at #5. Detroilet is at #19. Cleveland is sitting at #21 and KC rounds out the AL Central at #27. Dmitri Young sure was right about Cleveland being the Tigers only competition this year!! Too bad the competition in question is for finishing 4th in the AL Central!!

Windy, we're two weeks into the season. I wouldn't brag too much yet. How about we revisit the power rankings at the END of the season, when it really counts. grin.gif

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st

As I get older it's really not just about sending bullets down range.  Some of it's just the workmanship of the gun and the wow factor. The other two guns I have really wanted which I'll never have now because of their price, is a 8mm Jap Nambu and 9mm German Luger.   Just thought they always looked cool!

I had a guy hit me with a lightly used 1969 BAR, he wanted $1650 with an older Leupold scope. More than I think they are worth, I made an offer, he declined end of story.   You know if you look at the old brochures, a grade II BAR sold for $250 in the late 60s, $1650 would be a good return on your investment.    Why would anybody want a 50 year old gun, they are heavy, have wood stocks, and blued metal.  I guess mainly to keep their gun safes glued to the floor. lol   You can probably buy a stainless rifle that you never have to clean, with a synthetic stock you never have to refinish, is as light as a feather, and for half as much money, perfect.   I'm too old for a youth gun, although I've shrunk enough that it would probably fit. lol   No Ruger 10/44s.   Jim
