Some Good Family Resorts in the Area?

HuskerTornado

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm looking for a resort on Mille Lacs Lake that would be good for a family vacation. I've been looking on the internet at resorts that have web sites, and haven't quite been able to find exactly what I'm looking for. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? We are used to the Ottertail area where all resorts are lakefront.

Here is what we are primarily looking for:
A fairly large resort, with enough cabins for about 22 people.
Well kept modern Lakefront cabins .
Either a swimming beach or a pool.
Nice Boat Docks.

One last question, since I'm trying to get the family to go to a new lake, can you tell me what type of recreational activities there are in the area (for those that don't fish all the time), such as shopping, etc.? This would be very helpful!

Help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading.

Good luck.

Mille LAcs has some nice resorts in the lake but not many fit into the categories you are looking for. I woudl say east side is your best bet.

If you aren't totally fixed on Mille Lacs, Trotters Resort is on Round Lake (3 1/2 miles out of Garrison) toward Aitkin. They have 4 rustic cabins, and tent space. It is only one mile to Mille Lacs and you are within 5 miles of 3 different Mille Lacs public accesses. Also, not far from Farm Island lake (another great walleye lake). Round has a public launch and I am pretty sure Trotters doesn't charge to keep your boat on their dock. My father has a trailer there and we have been doing pretty well on walleye as of late in the late morning to early afternoon. The lake also has a ton of smallies, a few pike, some sunnies and crappie. There is a nice swimming area 1/4 of a mile down the road from the resort. You are within 45 minutes of garrison, the Grand Casino, Deerwood, Aitkin, and Brainerd. Lots of shopping and activities in all of these cities. If you insist on staying on Mille Lacs, the only resort I can think of that has room for that many in cabins is The Red Door in Wealthwood (the north end). They have a newer motel. They used to have alot of "add on" charges though (docking fees, launch fees, extra charge for too many cars, etc). I don't know what they do now. Good luck. If you end up Round, let me know and I can give you a few hints maybe.

Yes, MN is very difficult to register anything that had a title or a original registration card. I've ran into the same issue with old snowmobiles, and motorcycles it suks. Hope he can get it done over in Wisconsin for you. Good Luck.

Thanks.  Very similar to my tactics.  I usually haven't started using lead core until August and then we are fishing in 30 FOW.  I will give it a try in 20-25'.

It's amazing how much the water level is dropping. It looks like we've been getting enough rain to keep the forest hydrated but not enough to fill the lake.

Finally made it up to Vermilion this summer.  Between opening our place in Soudan and entertaining the wife and dog I only made it out on the lake 1½ hours Wednesday evening and 3½ hours Thursday morning.  In those 5 hours all I caught was a 10" perch.  I had 3 other light bites and that was it.  The wife caught two 8" eyes Wednesday and didn't get out Thursday morning with me.  Vermilion Fuel and Food didn't have rainbows, and their chubs were very small and pike suckers were too big (they did have a river-mix that looked good that I should have tried).  I did see a few mayflies on the surface so I will blame all of those factors on my lack of success, although my lack of fishing skills factored in also.  Many others fishing around us and I only saw one other fish being landed so maybe I wasn't the only one struggling to catch fish.   Water temp was 65°F in Stuntz Bay and the water level is running 13" lower than last year at this time as shown below.  Good luck fishing and enjoy the lake.  It was beautiful out there.
