Muskie report ????

The north end has been very slow for me. The weeds are just getting established. Maybe a week or two of normal weather will jump start things.

Where have all the muskies gone??? Was out on the south end all weekend had 1 on on the 3rd cast but got off. Caught a few northerns but no other follows all weekend. Does anybody have any advise on where to get some fish. I want to get back up there this next weekend and would really like to hook into a nice one.

Fished Cove Bay on 4th of July weekend. Beautiful cabbage everywhere. Raised a couple muskies, but no bruisers. Saw quite a few large smallies in the shallow hard bottom areas as well.

I'm heading up the 22nd. Looking for any info that may help. I plan, from reading the recent post's, to try the north shore and hitting the sand. What do all you hunter's think? And thanks for the past post's... let's help each other out with "general info."
I'll post my result's on Monday the 26th!

Was out in front of Barnicle's on saturday morning looking to pick up some perch had 4 guys in the boat had a couple bites and one small perch fishing 28 ft and then a bobber disapeared so my dad reeled in the slack and set hook and said he had a little one well after a few cranks on the reel and then we decided it was bigger than we first thought maybe a nice eye well it stayed down on the bottom for the first 5 min. then I seen it about 5 ft under the water 10yds out there it was a nice ski and after it took off a couple off times and burned the line out we finally had it to the surface next to my boat well there she was about a 50" ski and then she was off out on another run and then we got her back to the boat and then she took of again getting many nice looks at the fish one of our fishing partners said that this fish is bigger than alot of them on the wall then she took off again till we thought she was tireing out when she laid on her side at the top of the water not once but multiple times then she flip out of the water and then mad a roll and snap the line was broke. 6lb test a small hook and a leech and 15-20 min. fight well at least the old man got a work out another great day on the lake.

WOW! what a great story, thats what fishing is all about, for me it was about 3years ago
ice fishing in vineland bay
rattle reel and 4 lb test line, perch jig and fathead, and pop goes the bobber in the hole and the line starts reeling off like a rocket
well i played with that fish for about 20 min, and after many runs and I finley got it up to the hole were me and my buddie were both looking down the hole for the head to come into view, the ice was about 12 inches thick at the time with a 8" ice hole and here it comes, the head was so big that when it came under the hole thats all there was, the head was so wide you could not see around it, its head was wider then the 8" of the hole, well it took one look at us or the hole and it took off like a rocket till it came to the end of the line and (snap) it was gone, There are some monsters in that lake, and i hope some day to hook him again.

I had a buddy come up from colorado yesterday for the week. took hime out northern fishing with no luck so we decided that we would go and try to nail some of the large smallies that are in the pond. We only saw a couple of bass so we decided to head in and eat some supper. On the way in we saw that my brother-in-law was casting for some northerns in 9 feet of water. when we pulled up next to his boat i asked him if he had been having any luck and he told us that he had just got out there. He said that he hasn't had any bites and just then the pole doubled over and the line took off. i pulled my boat up next to his and jumped in and kicked mine out to sea with my buddy in it. My brother got the large muskie up to the boat three times when i finally had the chance to net him. Let me tell you that a small northern net doesnt fit a 40+ inch ski in it. The hook from the spoon got caught in the net and with one shake of his head he was gone. There was some words said that cant be repeted here but thats the way it goes sometimes. We were in wahkon bay the whole time. And the day before this happend the same brother got a 25 inch muskie. I told him "at least you get your chance. i have never even had a follow" he laughed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Fished north, west, and southwest end on Wed-Friday. Not one muskie caught. Saw lots, had one very brief hookup w about a 40 incher. They all look very healthy and well fed, which I assume affords them the luxury of looking at but not eating my tackle. Last week I caught a 21"+ smallie on a Bucher top raider.

was on North sand last weekend 8/1. saw lot of Muskie lying on the bottom or slowly cruising. Didn't seem too interested in lures, in fact some ran away from them.Did have a couple of follows though, so there is I think some potential for catching them.I'm thinking maybe trying a big topwater, going for a reaction strike rather than a eating bite.More to follow.

I have complete confidence in their expertise, and I'm certain that our cabin and fish cleaning house will soon have a brand new roof that not only meets our needs but exceeds our expectations. It's such a relief to have found a trustworthy contractor after previously having negative experiences. I'm incredibly grateful for the recommendations I received, and I'm excited to move forward with this reputable roofing contractor. If anyone is in need of a reliable and fair contractor in the area, I'd be more than happy to share their contact information

On the south end...  A great week of walleye and sauger fishing on Lake of the Woods.  Lots of limits.  Good numbers of fish being caught, which includes eaters, slots and some trophy walleyes to make things interesting!    Most anglers are jigging with a frozen emerald shiner or live minnow.  Jig colors to consider are gold with a bright color such as gold / pink, gold / glow white and even gold with some tinsel.     Some reports of spinners starting to work well tipped with a minnow or crawler.  A great technique is drifting with a 2 ounce bottom bouncer and spinner rig. Fish being caught around the lake.  Trust your electronics and watch for fish.  In addition to the south shore where various schools of walleyes and saugers are living, consider the Garden Island area, Knight / Bridges Island area, and Twin Islands where good fish are being caught.   Most walleyes in that 18 - 24 foot depth.    Good pike reports.  Back bays are still holding good eaters and a few big females.  Some of the larger fish have made their way to the lake.   On the Rainy River...   Walleye anglers are finding some nice eater walleyes in the River.  There is always a number of walleyes that stay in the river all year.  Whether you like the beauty and secluded feel of the river, have a small boat or simply want to get out of the wind, the river is a great summer spot with little traffic.  Anchored up or slowly moving upstream with a jig and minnow, trolling spinners / crawlers or trolling crankbaits are all effective right now.     Smallmouth bass are plentiful in the Rainy River.  Whether you are a bass angler or simply want to mix up species, target feeder rivers, bridges, and areas with rocks.   The sturgeon season will re-open again July 1st. Up at the NW Angle...  Excellent walleye fishing this past week.  The jig and minnow is the goto bait.  Anglers using spinners with crawlers or minnows and crankbaits are catching lots of fish as well.     Structure around the many islands holding walleyes.  Shallow flats areas with current are also heating up.     Great fishing reports from both sides of the border.  NW Angle anglers boating into Canada to fish cannot possess or transport any bait, alive or dead.  Most are using jigs / plastics, artificial crawlers on spinners and crankbaits with great success.  If desired, live bait is available and can be purchased for the day just over the border via boat in Canada, check with your resort for details. This entire area is great for multispecies action.  In addition to walleyes, big pike, smallmouth bass, jumbo perch, crappies, and muskies are also being caught on a regular basis.

We are heading up a week from Friday if anyone has walleye thoughts on the West end. Thanks!

Fishing for Walleyes slow. Panfish are going good however.  Lots of junk floating around the lake be careful. Pontooners give the fishing boats a wide birth.

Thanks to all that have shared reports.   Please post water temps and general area of the lake from the weekend and throughout this week.  I am heading up this weekend and water temp will play a role in our tactics.  Thanks!

Great idea! Filming your hunts and watching the footage during the offseason is a fantastic way to stay connected to your passion. YouTube offers a wealth of non-professional hunting videos filled with tips and inspiration. Your friend's camera stands for shallow water hunting sound impressive! It's a clever way to capture memorable moments. Enjoy your hunts and happy filming!

Fished for about 4-5 hours this weekend with the kids, all time in Big Bay. Had a mix of rainbows and pike suckers for bait. Rainbows out-fished pike suckers, and the small rainbows were bringing in fish. Caught about 12-14 fish, kept 8 for a fish fry. Biggest was 16". Limited sample says action seemed better in the morning than evening. Working 16-18' in the morning was our best run. Evening was slow. Didn't get to too many places, hit four reliable spots and caught fish in 3 outta 4.
