I would suggest landing at a resort like Macs or somewhere with a harbor and docking that way if the weather doesnt cooperate it isnt a parking lot event. Also some people may come by water and need a place to park.let me know if I can be of any help I am up there all the time

Macs, May 29th 0r June 5th?

Thats a nice place...Those are my free dates. Its seems everyone has conflicting ideas of were they want to launch and the dates don't seem to be any easier either.

I guess the most qualified person or people who can organize this well just need to set a date and place and go with it......Not everyone will be happy with the launch site and not all will be able to make it, but I guess thats life.

My vote is to Launch on the West side, Sha-Bosh-Kung or Garrison. Then you can run down to the south end or up to the north end. Wherever you want to fish. If we Launch out of Jacks not many people will want to make that long haul to the north end. If we Launch out of Jacks I probly wont go. Too long of a haul from my cabin, wastes too much gas.

I've just been notified by "The Boss" that I am not free on the 22nd. I guess there has to be a little give and take since I am fishing tourneys the 29th and 5th.

I also like the July idea for a little broader slot. Early in the year it's tough to get everyone together between Opener and Memorial Day etc.
How is July 24th on everyone's schedule? I know it's a long way off, but it will give us more time to plan and we'll be offered the broader slot limit too.

I'm in too, but would prefer the 22nd. I like the landing by the casino, what landing is that?

Can't make May 22nd as just found out my son has a baseball tourney that weekend. Will check back to see if date is changed or if a second tourney is scheduled.

Mayfly,
it was your idea. There is plenty of feedback now for you to make a decision.

I suggest you go ahead and set the time and place here, then start a New Topic with the time and place on it.

That's what I would do if I were you. Unfortunately, no matter what you do, you won't be able to accommadate everyone.

Good Luck mayfly.

"We should have an FM only Tourney on the pond this summer. ???"

I merely suggested it. I don't know how you interpreted that as saying "I'm going to organize a Walleye Tourney on Mille Lacs"

I think it would be a great idea. I opened the topic to see if anyone was interested. It seems that everyone is interested. So if someone wants to take off with it go ahead.

ROFLOL,
Mayfly, from your response, are you a little worried about moving ahead with this? I believe a lot of folks think you have a good idea.

You said:

It's logical to believe you might want to organize an event from that statement.

If not, that's cool too.

I was just making an observation that no matter what day you set, out of everyone who would like to attend, some will not be able to. You do need someone to take charge or your idea will flounder.

You started the thread, so it semed fair to suggest you. If not you, then who? That's all I'm saying.

It's sounds like a fun idea Mayfly. smile.gif

I'm in and flexible on the date. My vote is for Navigator to put this together. That is if Mayfly passes on being the the captain.

Could Father Hennepin park be a possible spot to hold this event??

Don't they have two accesses and a big community area with picnic tables and plenty of space?

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
