What do you think will be done?

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the upcoming year and what changes, if any the DNR will make reguarding the slot. It seems there are rumors but I haven't seen anything directly from the DNR.

My guess is that they are going to keep it the same as it is for about the first month during the night ban to see how fishing is and if there arent a lot of fish being caught they might increase the slot.

I don't know when it will happen, most like not to open the season, but what will probably happen is this: Rather than expanding the current slot, the slot will stay the same, but you will be allowed 1 over 17. This will accomplish the harvest of more of a variety of sizes which is what they say is wanted now. Of course this is all speculation, but it would be one way that it could work.

I am pretty open to whatever they decide. I try to give the DNR the respect I would want if I had there job. I Don't really need the fish and don't keep many anyways. Walleyes are awsome, but I prefer to eat some panfish anyday. I noticed that last years hooking mortality was greatest on July and August(14%)with the warm water so it would be nice for them to open up the slot a little more then. Not many fish are taken during those months anyways. I still will not be keeping 22+ inch fish even if the allow it. I would rather put those spawners back as I don't need fish that bad. I also would hope that they don't let people start taking 25"+ fish as these fish have made it a long time and will be tomorrows big fish.
