BIG ISLAND DUDE

Recommended Posts

Some freinds and I will be going to the "pond" for the first time on the 3rd-5th.
I do Ice fish for crappies up north.I usually use a glow jig and a crappie minnow under a bobber. Im not sure what to do for walleyes, is the same presentation acceptable. Should I use fatheads? How about suckers for northerns? What size jigs work best? We will be fishing somewhere on the northwest side I believe. Any kind of advice would be very helpful. Thanx.

If you want to catch walleyes, use shiners. Any jigging lure works well tipped with a minnow head. I like to use a jigging Rapala tipped with a fathead head on the bottom treble hook. Hope this helps you.

There are a number of jigging spoons that really work well too. Most of the tackle shops near the lake carry a nice supply. I usually use minnow heads on the jigging spoons. I also use jigging rapala's too. I tip the center treble with a minnow head.
If you are going to use a minnow under a bobber, go with a big fathead or small shiner minnow. Keep it about a foot off the bottom.
When you find the spot you want to fish, drill about a dozen or more holes and move around if you aren't catching fish. Don't stay in one spot too long unless your getting bit.
