Platte Lake

I'll be going to college in brainerd in the fall and I will be living on Platte Lake. Any tips on how i could manage to catch some northerns out of there? I'm catch and release only.

The family had a trailer at Channel Inn until last summer. Platte is loaded with Northerns. Mostly smaller. Trolling spoons is the most popular method. Platte is one big weed bed. There is a channel that runs on the east side as well. Sullivan is a deeper lake with more defined weed beds - less northerns but I think they are larger in size.

I live on the Lake on the far NE Bay. Where will your place be. As for the Pike they are everywhere, the best bet is to throw a spinnerbait around weeds (cabbage, Reeds)

My grandparents had a cabin @ Channel Inn back in the late 80s/early 90s. It will not be hard to catch Northerns. Pull a spinner/minnow combo around and you will get all the northerns you can handle.

Not sure if it is the case anymore, but Platte used to be a very good early-season Walleye lake. Al Lindner spent several openers on Platte in the mid 80s. We used to have a spot out by the second island where we would limit out in Walleyes, almost every time. I heard Platte froze out a couple of years ago and I haven't fished it since.

I'm on the north east portion of the lake. Tried throwing spinners for northerns but the heat must have turned them off.

Are you fishing out of a boat? I am fishing out of a red Lund with a casting platform on the back, usually I am either fishing the docks or the slop for bass.

That wasn't me, I usually am by myself. I haven't fished up where I think you are in a while. I think you are on the North side of the bay just East of the big Island. If that's where you are, I got a lot of pike along that North shore early in the year. Or are you in the farthest North bay that is super weedy?

Platte gets a lot of pressure for the ducks. On opening morning is sounds like a war zone. I have heard that it is tough to get a spot without someone setting up right on top of you.

My go to lures with lead core have been #5 Shad Raps and #7 Jointed Rapalas.  With Shad Raps I usually start about 2 mph with 85 ft of lead out in 20 ft of water. I usually use a 20 ft mono leader.  With Jointed Rapalas I let out 100ft of lead traveling 2 mph.  I am moving between 20 and 25 ft of water.

My name is HANNA HENRY .I want to give thanks to HAKEEM AHMED for bringing back my ex husband. No one could have ever made me believe that the letter I’m about to write would actually one day be written. I was the world’s biggest skeptic. I never believed in magic spells or anything like this, but I was told by a reliable source (a very close co-worker) that Trust is a very dedicated, gifted, and talented person,It was one of the best things I have ever done. My love life was in shambles; I had been through two divorces and was on the brink of a third. I just couldn’t face another divorce, and I wanted to try harder to make our relationship work, but my husband didn’t seem to care. and he broke up with me again . I was confused and did not know what to do again, rather they got in contact with HAKEEM AHMED. He did a love spell that made my husband come back to me. We are now very much happy with ourselves. HAKEEM AHMED makes him realize how much we love and need each other .This man is for REAL and for good . He can also help you to fix your broken relationship. I had my husband back! It was like a miracle! He suddenly wanted to go to marriage counseling, and we’re doing very, very well , in our love life . contact email [email protected] or text or add him up on whatsApp at: +27788392740 his web page http://astrologerastrology.com

You'll appreciate having less guys in the boat if you need to drag raps.

I love pulling lead core but usually don't pull it out until later in the season.  Can you share depth and speed numbers that were working with lead?  Thanks.

Heading up early Saturday morning. Going to be a short, discombobulated trip this year. Starting with 4 of us but one has to leave to watch his son play in state (WI) baseball tournament on Tuesday. Rest of us are only there until Wednesday. Kind of disappointing but I'm thinking we'll have to make a trip in September as well.    Forecast calls for wind!

Those are cormorants and they are aggressive fish eaters.  I saw more last weekend than typical on vermilion.  Pretty common  on the east end but I don’t usually see much of any on the west which is where we were.  They eat a lot of fish and surprisingly large fish for their size so they aren’t great for the fish populations.     I can’t believe how fast the water warmed up.  We were seeing up to the high 70’s last weekend.  Typically mid June is mid to upper 60’s.  The Muskies didn’t seem to be too fired up with the quick warm up.  The ones we moved were lazy and would not go in to the turn.  Hopefully some more normal temps this week help.
