Where does one go to find northerns on red?

I was up to Red on Saturday fished all day noticed a lot of people would have one tip-up set up within 50 feet of where they were fishing. I dont think that location is a big consideration on Red because the lake structure and the bowl shape makes it hard to pinpoint a certain hotspot for notherns. However, somewhere around 4.5 miles out, I have heard there is a difference in the bottom structure from basic silt or muck, to sand. If you can find this area I would recommend it and then get away from the crowd go a couple hundred yards away from the edge.
