I was on prior today.Cam works pretty (Contact US Regarding This Word) on that lake. pretty wild how you can watch all them sunnies swiming around and just looking at your bait.Crappies moved in right at dark. About a hour or so after dark they quit biting.

we were in about 15-16 ft. the vex lit up for about 5 minutes right around sundown...thinking it was craps moving in...thinking we should have been deeper, looking for the craps suspended..next time 25-30 ft. fished a shiner in one hole for the whole time, not so much as nibble...sunnies were all on grubs..

if your looking for walleyes and northerns I work some good spots on Prior.. head west of sand point beach.. there is a small island called reeds island fish north of that.. I used to catch several walleyes from 5-6 pm.. but for some reason there is a guy out there that think he owns that area by putting out Orange pine cones.. he has cones about 300 yards all around his house.. thats the best sport on the prior lake.. weeds rocks.. and points.. but This guy out there must think that he owns all that area...

good luck fishing.. look for the ornage pine cones and your catch walleyes...

Had an awesome night. Went out with a buddy, didn't catch a fish and got the truck stuck! Can't beat that. Oh well, there's always tomorrow, if the wife will let me. We were on the south end by the island. With all the trouble, I still had a great time.

Went out to Prior today.fished in three different spots.Caught one crappie and one sunnie, north of the island by sand beach.Still had the same problem of watching a ton of sunfish just swimming around brushing up against my bait as they swam by.Caught the crappie when it got dark.I could get fish to move off the bottom up to my bait but they wouldn't hit it. just move up to it then go back down to the bottom.

I'm gonna try orchard on sun.I've never fished orchard so if anyone can give me some tips that would be cool. I'm going out about 8:30 am.

It was a different day today fishin. I was out from 7-10 a.m. Got a few crappies and a few nice sunnies. They were thick but not biting. Was out from 6-9p.m. I got my first prior eye, 11" or so he went back. Picked up a couple of crappies and one sunnie after dark. I really had to coax them to bite today, not a lot of them did. I haven't been on orchard for a few years. I know you can get pike out by the grass islands. good luck, let us know how you do.

Went out to orchard today. Very slow day fishing. lots of small sunfish on the camera. got to watch a muskie swiming around scaring all the sunnies. that was cool. fished by grass island in 19ft of water. Didn't catch a fish.Interesting lake. I will have to do this lake again and see if i can find them fish.

Fishing789, what are using for lure/bait for the sunnies and crappies. "Liar" put an interesting post in the sunfish/crappie part of the forum for specific fish about lure selection and action. Might help. Doesn't it make you mad to see them on the camera and not have them bite?

Went out on prior sat caught 3 crappies along with about 20 sunnys about 3 feet off the bottom in 27 feet of water. The best part of the trip is when i dropped my Truck/ATV/House keys down the hole, tried to catch those suckers of the bottom but it was a little harder then catching panfish.

I'm not there, so I can't tell exactly what's going on but it looks like a large area of open water developed in the last day with all of the heavy snow on the east side of wake em up Narrows. These two photos are from my Ring Camera facing north towards Niles Point.  You can see what happened with all of snow that fell in the last three days, though the open water could have been wind driven. Hard to say. .

Black Bay had great ice before but a few spots near rockpiles where there were spots of open water. It looks like the weight of the snow has created a little lake in the middle of the bay.

On the south end...   Thanks to some cold spring weather, ice fishing continues strong for those still ice fishing.  The bite remains very good.  Most resorts have pulled their fish houses off for the year, however, some still have fish houses out and others are allowing ATV and side by sides.  Check social media or call ahead to your favorite resort for specifics. Reports this week for walleyes and saugers remain excellent.   A nice mix of jumbo perch, pike, eelpout, and an occasional crappie, tullibee or sturgeon being reported by anglers. Jigging one line and using a live minnow on the second line is the way to go.  Green, glow red, pink and gold were good colors this week.     Monster pike are on a tear!  Good number of pike, some reaching over 45 inches long, being caught using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring in 8 - 14' of water.   As always, work through a resort or outfitter for ice road conditions.  Safety first always. Fish houses are allowed on the ice through March 31st, the walleye / sauger season goes through April 14th and the pike season never ends. On the Rainy River...  The river is opened up along the Nelson Park boat ramp in Birchdale, the Frontier boat ramp and Vidas boat ramp.  This past week, much of the open water skimmed over with the single digit overnight temps.   Areas of the river have popped open again and with temps getting warmer, things are shaping up for the last stretch through the rest of the spring season, which continues through April 14th.   Very good numbers of walleyes are in the river.  Reports this week, even with fewer anglers, have been good.  When temps warm up and the sun shines, things will fire up again.   Jigs with brightly colored plastics or jigs with a frozen emerald shiner have been the desired bait on the river.  Don't overlook slow trolling crankbaits upstream as well.   Good reports of sturgeon being caught on the river as well.  Sturgeon put the feed bag on in the spring.  The bite has been very good.  Most are using a sturgeon rig with a circle hook loaded with crawlers or crawlers / frozen emerald shiners. Up at the NW Angle...  Ice fishing is winding down up at the Angle.  Walleyes, saugers, and a number of various species in the mix again this week.  The bite is still very good with good numbers of fish.  The one two punch of jigging one line and deadsticking the second line is working well.   Check with Angle resorts on transport options from Young's Bay.  Call ahead for ice road guidelines.

With the drifting, kind of hard to tell for sure, but I'm guessing about a foot and still lightly snowing. Cook end!

How much snow did you get on Vermilion?
    • Mike89
lake here refroze too...  started opening again yesterday with the wet snow and wind...  very little ice left today...
    • Hookmaster
A friend who has a cabin between Alex and Fergus said the lake he's on refroze. He texted me a pic from March 12th when it was open and one from 23rd when it wasn't. 🤯
    • SkunkedAgain
I don't think that there has been any ice melt in the past few weeks on Vermilion. Things looked like a record and then Mother Nature swept in again.   I'll give my revised guess of April 21st
