Spurzem Lake help needed

Recommended Posts

cyberamish

Tried Spurzem twice so far this year for a total of 13 hrs. Fished in 7 different locations / depths on the east side from 8 ft to 19 ft. So far we have caught zippo. Fished crappie minnows from 1 ft off bottom to three feet under the ice, waxies as well. Even put out tip ups and saw no action. Is there a special code word to use to catch anything out there?? Any help would be appreciated, trying to convince my 6 yr old son that ice fishing really is fun..... confused.gif

That lake gets hammered in the summer. Do you have a flasher? Since you're out that way you may want to try Lake Sara or Indy. Indy is a mile away. Those two lakes have tons of crappies to keep the kid happy.

Finding them is one thing and catching them is another. I heard on Sara the crappies are there and easy to find in the main basin, but tight lipped. Indy I haven't heard.

I wish I knew more about Spurzdog to help ya. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, I have fished Indy many times but tried Spurzem to try and escape the crowds a little. I do have a color flasher and marked a few fish on the bottom in 8 ft but no takers. was marking a fair amount of (what appeared to be) baitfish suspended at 6 ft in 19 FOW. I have not tried Sarah before so we may give that a try. Thanx!!

Try the 35' hole straight out from the landing. Unless you're fishing snakes, go deep.

Hokiepokie's right. You'll find crappies suspended in that deep hole. Most are small but it should give you some action with the kid. Good luck! Vern

Went back out to Spurzem this Am and set up in the deep hole off of the access. We had very good action....dare I say "non stop" , for about 2.5 hrs. Crappies were generally small but did end up with 9 that were 9" to 10" for the fry pan. Most importantly my son had a ball!!!! Now if I can just figure out a way to explain to the wife why Daddy had him play hookie from school today....... grin.gif

Hey Joshua, May be post back in the morning when the owner of this site is awake and see if he likes the Free bait, buy later your selling. May be you can work out the sponsor-vendor deal with him.  I'll have to say posting late at night when site owners and most of the Mods are asleep is a good way to get some site and product views in before it's deleted. Good luck with the sales!

According to the Army Corp of Engineers weather station here in Waskish we have had a grand total of  1.29 inches of precipitation so far in 2018.  When we were burning the grass of there was still about 30% snow cover. The flames were hitting 10 feet high.

Nice to see there might actually be some ice melting up that way! jkrash, those are hooded mergansers though.   I might’ve called out my first woodie sighting this year as one of those too.  But nah!  I know what I saw had to be woodie! Haha! Seriously though, I’ve seen more, and more variety of ducks this spring than ever  in my life.  The late lake ice outs have made the river a diver Mecca.  I think I saw a few with Ely or bust signs on em too!  The bulk of woodies have been in the Little Falls area for about a week, some for a couple.  The hoodeds have been here for at least a month. They’re all coming though!
