WOW

Big Daddy 14

Recommended Posts

Fished the pond today. Started about 12:00 caught 27 {and released} fished till dark. Most of the fish between 13-16 with the biggest 24. Caught most on a dead stick using a JR's #2 Glow drop with a green dot. Also a few on the new rattle spoon they have out. Perch colored. Fun to get into them like that.

Sounds like a good time. Those moon glows are awesome, I got a couple up this evening using Moonglows.

Were you able to drive to the mud yet?

I was out on 1 mile on the east side and we had at least 17-20 inches of good ice. And yeah, fishing was pretty good before the nasty hit if you could keep your portable from blowing away, ended up tying mine to my truck.

Regardless if it's 27 or 25, the talk around much of the lake has been the 5-mile and 8-mile are producing muliple limits. Two friends of mine fished the 5-mile last week and got close to 50 in two days.

As for me, another quiet weekend at Rocky. I picked up a few eyes on sunday morning and that was about it. Looking ot hit the mud flats soon.

Overthelimeit why even read the updates then. What reason would they have to lie? so someone they don't know thinks they did good, wow that'd be satisfaction. By the way we caught about 40 for 4 of us on Saturday, and that was the slow day of the week. Word is out just ask around.

OTL My word is good. You can doubt me if you want! Just trying to give a little info without taking you to the holes I fished. By the way this bite has been going on for over a week, maybe you should try some different spots. I will bring my camera next time but you will have to help me post the pictures. Good luck! Plenty of ice and not much snow did not use 4 wheel drive in the truck.

Congrats on your success Big Daddy. I'll be bringing my wife and 6 yr old son to Mille Lacs on Saturday. Can you drive out to the flats with a truck or do you need to go by atv? Can I access the lake from the casino landing, or is there a better place?

I have a lake map and can find some flats to fish, but any tips or advice you could offer would be great, I just want my wife and son to catch a fish. If you don't want to post any info, you could e-mail me @ [email protected]

If you don't want to give any info out at all, that's ok too.

Ole

Over the limit is right. While he is no great fisherman, he knows quite a few, i.e., me. Anyway, people are slaughtering fish in certain areas. Mostly the areas that can be the most difficult to get to. If he says he is catching fish you know he is lying, however when he says that others are catching fish that is the down right truth! cool.gif

Got my big house out of Hunter's Point today. Anyone have any suggestions for getting any sort of 'eye action without having to travel to the west side to get out of Terry's or Myr Mar to get to the mud flats there? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks Guys!

Envy is one of the most dangerous emotions! While Limited out has had "limited" success in cribbage, he is awful at poker. If he ever tells you to join him for a game at the fish house, be sure to attend, it will be a very profitable night. wink.gif All jokes aside, let me know how you do this weekend. I will be fishing the metro tomorrow, and working all weekend, but only a few more weeks beforeI can make it up to the big pond.

      No, that wasn't me.  I drive a 621 Ranger.

So, that was you in the camo lund? I'm bummed, I have to head back to the cities tomorrow for a few days, then back up for at least a few weeks. Got the dock in and fired up to get out chasing some crappies till opener!

On the south end...   Lots of ice on the main basin, but it is definitely deteriorating.  Some anglers have been fishing the open water at the mouth of the Rainy River in front of the Lighthouse Gap.  The rest of the basin is still iced over. Pike enthusiasts caught some big pike earlier last week tip up fishing in pre-spawn areas adjacent to traditional spawning areas.  8 - 14' of water using tip ups with live suckers or dead bait such as smelt and herring has been the ticket.  Ice fishing for all practical purposes is done for the year. The focus for the basin moving forward will be pike transitioning into back bays to spawn,  This is open water fishing and an opportunity available as the pike season is open year round on Lake of the Woods. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. With both the ice fishing and spring fishing on the Rainy River being so good, many are looking forward to the MN Fishing Opener on Saturday, May 11th.  It should be epic. On the Rainy River...  An absolutely incredible week of walleye and sturgeon fishing on the Rain Rainy River.     Walleye anglers, as a rule, caught good numbers of fish and lots of big fish.  This spring was one for the books.   To follow that up, the sturgeon season is currently underway and although every day can be different, many boats have caught 30 - 40 sturgeon in a day!  We have heard of fish measuring into the low 70 inch range.  Lots in the 60 - 70 inch range as well.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  Open water is continuing to expand in areas with current.  The sight of open water simply is wetting the pallet of those eager for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th.   A few locals were on the ice this week, targeting pike.  Some big slimers were iced along with some muskies as well.  If you like fishing for predators, LOW is healthy!

Early bird gets the worm some say...   I have it on good authority that this very special angler caught no walleyes or muskies and that any panfish caught were released unharmed.

    • CigarGuy
