confused.gif Did the DNR remove the walleyes from pokegama? I fished this lake for almost a week in the usual and some unusual spots and could not catch a one..

P/S : Do not stand over your fish hole when using them Dupont Spinners!!

I pulled a 26 incher out of Jay Gould (attached to Pokeg) last Thursday. It and a small northern was all I had on top of the ice all day. On the flasher I could see waves of small stuff and then larger stuff follow underneath me but nothing wanted to commit. Wish I had a camera that day !

laugh.gif Great going jtroop. Were you on big or little J. Usually I can get a few walleyes out of the keg over Christmas/New Years but I think they saw me coming this year.

I was on little J. Everything I saw on the flasher was suspended between 25 and 47 feet (in 53 feet). Let us know if you find some action on Pokeg. I'll hopefully be up to try again later this month.

I fished Pokegama as well earlier this week and didn't ice a single eye. It seemed that most people were struggling. I did talk to one guy who caught 6 one morning and had one that went 30.5 inches. I think we need to be heading to deeper water 30 ft plus.

I think the cold fronts have really been messing with the fish. Been hard fishing anywhere. Really having to work for them. Hard to find active fish. I have heard they are doing pretty well on Moose.

They closed the county roads leading to the 4 accesses on Koochiching County.   Fishing and hunting are still allowed.   Looking forward to you getting up here.

I would go back and read Cliff and Ace and others comments about past openers.    A lot depends on when the ice goes out.     Which end you gonna be at?      And bring warm clothes and good raingear...   I've been snowed on in the past.

I heard from a buddy that there will be no fishing allowed on the river this spring. Any truth to that? I think it is a good idea otherwise there will be people coming up in droves as usual. Stay in your house and say some prayers.   I am stuck in my house down here in Texas and hope to eventually get back up North. Canada border closed so I couldn't hit my favorite spots on Rainy Lake anyway.

Alright everyone, since I’m starting to see some open water out here in South Dakota I’m itching to get off the ice fishing talk. Due to the virus, this is likely to be my first opener on Vermilion in about 20 years. What are some strategies that you use that time of year? Depth, presentation, bait etc.    I’ll warm up on the April walleyes out here in the meantime!

Got home from work while it was raining.  It finally slacked up around 5 and I took a walk around the yard, picked up some stuff, trimmed a few trees and stretched out a little further to figure out a few blind sets for turkey season.  As comfortable as I am with the ground around me, it was worth the scout.  I figured out 3 spots that I hadn’t considered before.     It was definitely refreshing to be outside again and now I can at least have some anticipation for the upcoming season!

Huh, crows.  Interesting.  Never thought about them as a spring shoot type bird.   In prime breeding colors I bet! 😁   I watched a dad gum black squirrel take a hideout in one of my new wood duck boxes tonight.  I think I’ll have words with him tomorrow.

Went out to break in the shotgun and boy I was shooting way off mark at them crows. Finn sat there watching and shaking his head as I unloaded multiple times. It was fun to shoulder the shotgun again. Might try again tomorrow
