Just curious.... anyone thinking about getting a summer launch FM event going? It was a fun get together last fall.

Posted

I know that I would be very interested!! I had to miss last years outing so I hope something happens. Which launch was used last year?

Posted

I'd like to do it, but I might get my name deleted from the list....

Posted

I also missed last years, but would like to go as long as it is not over grouse opener again this year.

Posted

Husk, maybe you and I could fish in the same boat??? smile.gif

Hey, lets not let this thread die out!! If anyone has an idea as to which launch service they prefer, please post it. I'll help with the planning as much as I can. wink.gif

Derek was instrumental in planning last year's event....in fact he took care of almost everything. Got your ears on, Derek? Any interest in organizing another?

For those who aren't aware, last year a number of us stayed at a resort on the lake, as well. It was a fun experience and allowed us to put names to faces.

Some also dabbled with their musical talents...as I heard about.

Where is "Harmonica Bear"?

Posted

Oh, he is alive and well...lurking in the shadows, mouth harp at the ready.

Derek is fishing the WaveWackers Tourney and probably won't see this thread until Monday or later.

I know there was talk of doing it again.

HEY, count me in.That would be a great time, some of the launches will allow a small keg of beer on as well.If any one would want to have a few, might even find a grill to bring along.

Alot of launches have propane grills on them.

A few burgers or steaks is good. smile.gif

I am here, ready to travel. Count me in. Just as long as I get some sleep this year!

Hello guys, I started to plan a new trip for this year back in Feb but most of the places I called couldn't provide what I was looking for or was already booked. I was shooting for June and most of the resorts are booked out to the end of July when the fishing slows. Fishers seemed to have the best accommodations. They have cabins, camping and two launches. Its possible they may have openings in Sept? Last year we had 28 people with 5 that couldn't make it and another 7-10 that wanted too but couldn't. If any of you guys want to head this trip up and plan it, go ahead. Ive got my hands full this summer. But I would like to join the trip.. Be-sure to check with other FM affiliated resorts as they may offer a deal. Ideally a resort that can accommodate over 20 people for both lodging and fishing will be best.

Hey guys, I stoped in at Fishers this weekend and picked up some info. Also talked with a very friendly young lady there about a get together for the FM.com crew.
They have a pontoon boat that can hold up to 35 people, that rents out for $500.00 for 4 hours of fishing. And they will go out at night with the pontoon as it has lights.
No BBQ grill aboard but we can bring all the beer and sandwiches we want.
The other boats the run only hold 20 people and go for $375.00 for 4 hours.
The late night hours would be from 8PM till 12am.I have to check their web site to see if they have a cabin large enough for a group to stay in if everyone wants to stay up there over night.I forgot to ask about that when I was there.(was drooling to much over this fine lady smile.gifHumor!!!!
Well that's what I was able to get so far.
Didn't check out Dikkies Portside though, they may be a little cheaper and I know they have a large cabin for a group to use.

I have never been the in charge of a group gathering before but if there are enough people that can make it I could try and get it set up.

Benny,

If you want to grab the ball and start it rolling...feel free. If you should run into any problems, or need any help, feel free to contact me and I will do what I can.

This summer looks like it is going to be crazy for most of us.

Benny,
I'll help you out as well. I can also help keep the risk factor down. I can deal with Greg Fisher of Fisher's Resort. He's a friend of mine.

How many are interested in attending so I can give Greg an estimate?

We'll decide timing once we get an idea of the interest and check out availibility of launch and cabins.

You will enjoy Fisher's. They have plenty of cabins and their launch is pretty good too.

Again, who is interested in a launch trip?

Posted

I'm interested. I've chartered Fisher's launches for a couple years awhile back when I ran our company's fishing league. The large pontoon launch worked great.

Posted

Count me in for two..

Also I talked with Paul last winter about doing a pig roast. Is that still workable Paul?

Rick, I would be interested as well.

Posted

Count me in as well. I'll be there with bells on!

RICK
Count me in and about another 8-10 from the ice shanty group. Fishers is a great place to go out of.

Posted

Depending on the timing, I'm in for two, as well (if you're out there H.B., you're in that two).

It'd be nice if we could all be on one launch this year....gotta keep those fish stories straight. wink.gif

Posted

Count me in for a minimum of two, again based on the date.

Please no conflicts with LETS Statewide of Metro league.

Posted

Derek,

Can, and will do the pig roast, if it's a workable date for me. If I know far enough in advance it won't be a problem

Well I will just have to call Fishers and ask if they can accomodate about 25 to 35 people.
I assume that we would want to stay there over night or maybe even a two night stay?

I didn't get in on last years fun so I don't know how it was worked out.

Did you all have one or two nights lodging, and how many launch trips?

Did the person who organized it collect deposit money in advance?

What about the cost if to many people bail out at the last minute, would we just split the cost up between all that do go?

Do we want a day trip, evening trip or try for a late night launch?

And finially what dates should we shoot for, maybe late July, or middle Augaust, or out to September?

I know that Sept. gets buisy for the early goose hunters, and the western elk, deer hunters so a Mid to late August trip may work best.Might be hotter than the blazes at that time of the year though.

I will call Fishers and ask them if they have an open week end for this many people.
Thanks, Benny

Last year we had two night lodging. Memembers booked their own lodging. We had one launch trip on Sat nite. Book a charter trip to get a discount and divide that by the number of people you have plus $50 or so for the captains tip. First come first served. You will need to send the resort a deposit and the members will send you their fee. Fishers also has camping which can be nice. Late July maybe too soon? Fishing and the heat can be bad in August. Fishing picks back up and the heat goes down in Sept but hunting can conflict. Maybe labor day weekend might be good but alot of folks have plans. Or the third or 4th week of Sept might work as some guys will have some hunting in by then.

I'm in with Huskminn. That is if you can put up with the two of us. Anytime after July is good with me.

Barely had time and data to post a few random daily pics!  😄   Iffen you’re self banned, how’d ya know? 😉   Sunday - Tuesday hunt near Yankton, SD.  We found ourselves there between two of the big pushes north.  Adults first, pushing the ice line north, slipped through a couple days before we got there and the second juvie push held up by the storm that went through the night we traveled.  Our best day was Monday.  Sunny and warm with a nice south wind.  Day 3 was cool with a stiff northeast wind bringing in another storm.     A select few groups did well with birds coming off Lewis and Clark lake but we weren’t in their path.  We packed up early and hit the road.  We headed north and found them between Brookings and Watertown.  Saw 100’s of thousands at the ice line.

Crazy, about 50 Robin's hit our yard!  Not sure what their eating but none are in any of the neighbors yards around us?  Had to cut video down so it would run.  20250319_175454.mp4
