How shallow is a guy going to have to be at night? I plan on doing some slip bobberin' on Big Point. Under 10 feet? What do you guys think?

My float should be splashing into the water @ 12:01 A.M. as well Friday night, but on the North shore. As far as depth, I'm thinking of anchoring in no deeper than 10, and having the boat positioned so we can cast to the deep rock edge as well as the top of the reef in 6' of water. I want to give this a real chance cause I think guys were fishing way too deep last year as a whole, especially for the smaller, more agressive slot fish. Not sure though, just a tentative game plan...if this does not work - we'll slide to the sand for the dawn bite. Any other thoughts?

It is not uncommon to find the big girls in less than 4 feet at times.

I'd stay real shallow.. On the lake im planning on fishing I already know its gonna be about 6-7 feet of water even during the day!!

Arent there night-time regulations on Mille-Lacs for the first2 or 3 weeks though?? I thought there was a no boats on the water after like 10 rule or somethin like that for awhile anyway??

Don't be affraid to try really shallow after dark. I like to anchor with the boat up wind so the lines can work the sides of the rocks and float up top also. That way you can can catch the fish as they move up onto the rocks. However, you want to be able to cast to the top once it gets dark.

One tip about bobber fishing is spend the time getting set up prior to dark or have a good idea where you are going to set up. The last thing you want to do is to have to keep moving on shallow rocks because you can't get your anchor and boat positioned right. The later in gets the shallower I cast.

This weekend on Big Stone we were getting fish in 3 ft of water on the rocks. A lot of time that is where you will find the big ones.

I think it all helps to create motion and confusion to keep their attention away from the blinds.  The hurricanes seemed pretty important though.  6 of them per spread and moved around dependent on wind direction.  Some tall silo socks mixed in with them too.  Kill hole in the middle with a few decoys clustered over the e call.  That was about 25 yards from the blinds.  7-8 batteries to run everything.  2000 decoys per spread.   I wasn’t the shot caller.  We were taking them at about 40 yards on average but I believe we could’ve gotten a lot of them feet down.  We all remember the single Ross’ that broke off from a group of snows hovering at 100+ yards and took the elevator all the way down to its demise.  The shot was called just before it lit but we were all sure if it was left alone, the audience above would’ve joined.  It was mesmerizing to watch to watch how much they work a spread without flapping their wings much.   These pics were waiting for them to come down closer.  They did.

Never hunted conservation season. Actually get birds feet down or longer shots? I've been running battery operated flappers but does the rotary machine really help?
