Mille Lacs FMers Radio Channel

I think that this should go out to the guy in charge of this site. Is there a channel on the marine radios that could be used for FMers while on the lake to talk to each other and pass on fishing info?

I'll be in the SW area of the lake, unless the wind blows off, then I'll be in th NE. I'll be on 69 and I'll pass on any reports that I have.

Snob,

On a normal year you are fine if you get to the ramp(I assume you are talking about Malmo)by 5:00. If you get there past 6:15-6:30 it is usually really busy. Of course they are talking strong winds out of the south so this may keep some anglers down in the southern half of the lake. Good luck and see ya on the pond!! 4 days and counting!!

I tried last year also to reach any one from the site on the pond. But as you found out there were no Fmers out at the same time we were.
I will be up at Agate Bay for the Memorial weekend, plan on being there around 6PM or so.We have room reserved there in the hotel, just look for the Green/Tan 2000 Ford F150 towing a Red Lund Explorer with a merc 40 on it.
I go by the same handle on the radio also, so give a hoot.If I hear you I will gladly respond, I usually can talk all the way across the pond if the other person has a good radio and tall antana.

Sifty,
I was wondering what happened to you, I gave you a couple of calls on Sat. and got no response. I did however hook up with someone from FM, that was fishing on Indian Point, I was in Vineland, but I forgot to ask who it was. Soooo... which one of you FMer's was the one on Indian Point that answered me?

Derek, yes it was I that you got ahold of on Friday night. How did you do. I had a 22"er by 12:02 then a 19.5"er several min later (I let me 7 yr. old reel that one in) Thought I was on the motherload but didn't get another bite for the next 45 minutes. So I moved up the finger I was on to where it met the base of the reef. I got 1 more 22"er then nothing so I called it a night. The little guy was asleep by then anyway. What a trouper to make it that far anyway. Moved up to Fishers and fished up there on Sat. Got a few more. 1 was even a keeper. I played with the Reelbottom GPS map. I really like it. Everything I trolled across was right on the money. It was neat that aroung Fisher's area that the spots that showed a couple foot rise were isolated rock patches surounded by sand. On the Carsolona sand bar the countours were right on. My x-15 doesn't have wass but I don't need it. My GPS is dead nuts on every time on every waypoint that I have downloaded from lakemaster. I did find a few high spots on Agate bay reef that were not on the map but every one that was was there was right on the money. i did troll in Isle bay for Northerns before we left Sat afternoon. Didn't get bit but it was nice to use the map to antisapate the zigs and zags without having to troll thru the area several times to figure out a trolling run. I did talk to another FMer on Sat. Can't remember the call sign fully. somthing H2O. He was down by Big point I think. At least I made a few contacts. Channel 69 was perty bizzy. Everybody keep on trying.

Captaincurt, any fish being caught on Agate reef??
Will be staying there at Agate Bay resort over the Memorial weekend. We did fair there last year, but the bit was best just before dark. They don't have reserved dock space there so I have to haul it in before the crowd to get a space smile.gif
Thanks, Benny

Well, I tried and tried. No one from the site responded. Not even some friends that were on the North side.
I know any one on the water could here me and we could easily talk to each other because I talked with a few people who gave me a radio check. One was on the North, and one was all the way into the bay by Whokon.
I called for Derik,Siffty,Seppy,Waterwolf,and Scott.
I understand that we may not have been on the water at the same time so I wasn't disapointed.Just wondering if any one else was tring to call out to the FM'ers?
Was on the water Sat from 9AM till 4PM,6PM till 9PM, Sunday about the same hours, and today from 11:30am TILL 12:30 pm.

I heard Captain Tim,Captain Hook,Squiral(sp?),TZ,A Rick,A Dad,and a bunch of kids Sunday night who wouldn't shut up, kept yelling "WhatsssUppp".
Thanks, Benny

Benny, I didn't get out on the water until Monday. We fished crappies the entire time and weren't on the lake very long. The good news is the fishing was excellent.

On a side note, we also fished crappies on Red this weekend and that bite was good also. We will be posting some crappie photos on our site today.

I will be on the pond this coming weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday. As always, I will be on 69!

Scott, Monday I only had the radio on for about 10 minutes. We were only planning on a short boat ride and just a little time at Flamingo reef with the bobbers out.
I was on the road by 12:30 PM.

My friend Seppy, who was up on the North side tried to call me Friday noght.I got out of the cities an hour later than planned and my folks showed up just as we were un packing. So I never even hit the water to fish Friday, just dumped in and morred up.

Crappies on the pond eh?I here they are tough to find out there, though I never have fished for them either.

Talk to you later, Benny

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?

On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭

Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
