Tax payers paying for tribal netting

It makes no sense to me that the Wisconsin band has a (marginal interest) in harvesting Mille Lacs walleyes and want to commercially sell these fish to compensate for their gas expenditures. This all sounds like an inconvience on their part for the option of netting fish. Why not just stay home and save the gas money and time and pursue something more enjoyable and profitable? And to have taxpayers spending their dollars to have treaty stand in's is uncomprendable to me. I have stayed out of the debate since it started, but this one raised my hackles...It is tough to avoid the lake you love like Mille Lacs, but I think it's all too political and takes the enjoyment of fishing for me. Just my (2) cent's worth...Always serchin"

My personal view on articals like this, is that they come out EVERY spring in an attempt to stir the pot, and get a the bad feelings to rise back to the surface.

Statements like "We wonder whether GLIFWC employees are being paid to do the netting and whether they are using federal equipment or collecting expenses." the operative word being "wonder" have no place in a factual argument...period.

P.E.R.M. has done a good job in some respects, but I really wish they would present "Facts" for poeple to base their positions on, instead of "Emotional Trigger Phrases".

I think this a by-product of a "Politically Correct" society.

Our congress men and women are not inclined to take a position, tackling an issue,if it involves deterring or reliquishing the rights of a minority group.

They are deathly afraid of being labeled "intolerant" or "racist". Even if the issue at hand makes ethical or moral sense.

Abraham Lincoln once said "A nation divided will fall". Technically we are not a divided nation, but to allow indians to run sovereign territories within our borders is a form of division. I am not saying these people should be deported, or anything that drastic or inhumane. What I am suggesting that it is ridiculous to allow a group of peoples, such as the indians, to run seperate nations within our borders. They should be incorporated within the same "America" that you, myself and any other immigrants who come to this country seeking a homeland do.

The cold hard truth is that they were a conquered nation. This is not exclusive to just our situation here in America. History shows us that nations have conquered other nations and incorporated those peoples into their own society. Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing is not the point. The point is that it happened a long time ago and we should move on for the betterment of this country.

Treat them as members of our society, with the same priveledges and rights that you and I have. Until this country stops trying to label indians, blacks, hispanics, etc. into their own specific groups this country will always have problems uniting. How about calling all these people just plain "Americans" instead of "Black americans" or "Indian Americans"?? The sooner we do that, the better off we will all be.

Question for this knowledgeable group   I've noticed over the past two weeks at the lake that in certain areas there seems to be a ton of black "duck-like" floaters that seem to congregate by tons and stir up the water and then move to another area close by, stir up the water again and move again. I've seen them recently in Greenwood Bay and around Fectos.   Are these cormorants? Are they stirring up the water by fishing?   Thanks

Followed the advice I posted, slip bobbers w rainbows and crawlers in big bay on a dozen humps topping out at 6 to 12'. Caught a few smalles and a couple 12" walleyes. So not very successful but maybe didn't hit the right humps or lake was too calm or wrong time of day - 7:30 11 am. That's why they call it fishin'

I may have to take you up on that. I've been moving for a month and don't even have my boat in the lake yet!

Walleye Report:  Just spent a week on the lake (East end).  The fishing was as hot as the weather with many, many 14-25" walleyes.   Surface Temps: Consistently 70-72 with the recent hot weather.  Swimming was comfortable the past three days.  Depths:  All caught in less than 10 FOW Techniques: Lures - Plastics and jerkbaits.  We bought two dozen leeches but never opened them.  I do regret not watching a bobber dip below the surface.   Tactics: Cast and retrieve lures in sandy bays, over main lake/secondary rocky points, across rocky flats, between sandy flats, and throughout silt/mud bays with shallow weeds.  A little wind and clouds helped but was not always necessary.  And we had lots of random fish.    Advice:  Get out there and fish.  These patterns should hold for the next week-two.  The fish are aggressively feeding in the shallows where they are finding crawfish, shiners, etc.  A fast moving bait is getting hammered.  I literally can't tell you how many times I saw fish INHALE our presentations at the boat.   The population is healthy.  Catch and keep a few and let a bunch of them go.     Good luck.

Lol, if they had enough enforcement in the first place. They may catch them the rest of the season without the tag!
