First fish of the year (Buffalo area)

Just got home from fishing and this is the first fish of the night and for the ice season. Lets hope the rest of my year goes this good.

Did OK? i talked with afew guys tonite seems the fishing is good if your quite. As soon as one guy fired up a power auger the fish stopped. Why a power auger for 4 inches of ice? That guy needs to do so push-ups. HOORAH !! Go ARMY.

First time out on the ice last night, after sitting around reading post for 3 weeks. 3 days ago I checked the ice and could not get out. Went out about 3 yesterday to check and about 4-5". So I set up in a old hot spot. Nothing till dark then BAM.. It was cool to see it come up because the ice was so clear and my light was on, it was like looking through glass. I was fishing right on the bottom, I was hoping some more would come through but then 2 guys set up by me and started pounding a way at the ice and you could hear it all away across the lake. So that put a end to the fishing for the night. Because it was so long before I could get out, I was all wild up, I was going to put her back but had to show off alittle and we needed something for dinner tonight anyways.

Creappie, I caught a real horse on the mississippi r. The crappie weighed 3# 5oz ,17 3/4" long. using fatheads on a 1/16 jig.

Hey 18 gave you a little crap earlier because I am anxious to get out myself. I fished Buffalo this summer quite a few times. Had my inlaws out and we just pounded the bass and northerns off one little spot. We caught more than 50 fish in about 4 hours. The bass were very nice fish. Had 15 that were 18" or better. By the way CPR'ed all but a couple pike for dinner and the little nephew could get his picture for his first time ever fishing. This little spot went from 3'- 20' and was all rocks. I am planning on hitting it tommorow evening and hoping to get into some eyes or crops. How thick is the ice right now? Has to be looking good with these temps.

I know where you were fishing cabinet guy theres only one spot on the lake that fits those clues. yanked some bass off there myself this summer. I used to have decent luck there at first ice for walleyes but I havent for a few years now , but that can always change. maybe see you out there some night. good luck!
