We have the vac 750 and are very happy with it. It has the manuel seal option. That is a very handy option.

A tip I got not long ago was to go to stores like Kohls to buy them - they have the same things they carry at outdoor stores like Cabelas and Gander, but significantly cheaper. I haven't looked so I don't know how good of a tip this is, but those things are spendy enough that maybe you could save a few bucks.

None.

I have found that if you wrap your fish or venison tight in plastic wrap then freezer paper it will keep for at least a year with no freezer burn.

I have frozen Walleye for over a year and a half this way and had no problems with frost.

Cheap, Quick, and Easy !

Big Lake Bass, The best deal around is at Costco in Riverdale(Anoka).Model V1085.Comes with 3 canisters,2 full rolls of material,10 qt.size, 10 gallon size bags. Last price I saw was $129 I think. I paid $149 in July.Has all the bells and whistles. DrJ.

I have the V845 and absolutly love it. Don't know how I lived without it. If you hunt and freze fish it is a must have. We buy alot more stuff in bulk and freeze it.

One trick is to buy stuff that you can reuse the bags. They get a bit spendy if you have to use new ones every time.

Depends on how you are going to use it. I had a bigger unit that is going on 5 years old. I have sealed a lot of fish with that unit. Anyhow it started to have problems seal it would draw a vacum but not seal. So I decided it was time for a new one. I looked at all the models Walmart had and decide that the Mini was the one to get. It was around $40 I usually only used the 8" bags anyhow so this was a perfect match for me. I use it for all my fish and deer it is way easier than have to mess with locker paper and and bags.

That is usually the FoodSaver. They are the most popular and yes they are pretty good.

It has been said before but I will reiterate it. Get one with the manual seal. It is invaluable when sealing wet fish. I have the Foodsaver 1050 and use it all the time.

Anyone that says that standard wrapped food will last as long as vacuum sealed food is kidding themselves. I have done it both ways and side by side to test them and vacuum sealing keeps it longer and in better condition than any freezer paper or ziplock bag.

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
