Lake Reno ice and fish report

Recommended Posts

I have been waitin to get up there. THe past few years have been kind of crappy. Anyway I was wondering the report for walleyes was out there i heard it has been packed the north bay (never really fished there i always fished on the west side there by my cabin)but if anyone could give me heads up on the ice and fish reports before this weekend it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Called bait store in Sauk Centre and they told me DNR shut down the access on Reno last night due to thin ice. Can anyone confirm this? It is fishable ? thanks

I fished reno on tuesday and it was a circus. There were several cars parked on the ice right next to the shore because there was no parking left at the access. I think people were afraid of parking on the highway and getting a ticket. The cars busted up the ice bad by the access but on the lake where we fished the ice was around 5 inches, there were plenty of snowmobiles and atvs jerking around small permanent ice houses. We only caught 1 small fish but some people have done well. I wouldn't be suprised if the game and fish shut it down but it would most likely be due to the parking situation. There were about 75 people out there on a tuesday night.

I myself was up there this weekend and went off from our lot where nobody else could get and I caught a nice 2 pound eater and a couple small ones and had some com in on the vex but none took, but my dad ahad blast even though he only caught one fish but that fish made his whole year it was about 11 or 12 pounds he couldnt get it through the hole so he lipped it like a bass and cut up his finger pretty bad but he said it was well worth it.

Wow! Congratulations to your dad buckmaster. That will be bragging rights for some time to come. How much ice is there on Reno now, do you think we might see 8" by next weekend? If you get a picture of that fish, put it on the forum, that kind of thing keeps the rest of us going.

It sure was big but the bad thing about it was that we had no tape measure or camera so all it was, was catch and release. There was about 3 inches of good ice but that is out front of our cabin on the west side and there was open water where we were and with the wind sunday there was no ice where we were saturday night. But the north bay has 6 inches on her so that is very fishable.

Just got home from Reno,

11 inches in the north bay as of Sat. 6:00 pm. and several cars and light trucks, a couple F-150's out on the ice. The walleye bite however is slow. Got two this morning 18" & 15", nothing in the evening. Good luck all, and remember the main lake is thinner ice. I heard 7 inches this afternoon. Shinners on dead stick for both keepers, a couple smaller on angel eye junior tipped with fathead head. The edge of the weed line seemed to produce the best. 12-1/2 feet.
