Is anyone catching anything? What depth and what color lures? Is there any night bite? I am staying on gull lake and would like to know where to catch fish. Me and my roomate have been out the past four nights and have only caught one perch. Any help would be apprectiated.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but as you might read in another post here, my computer crashed and took some fixin'. Where have you been fishing? I have seen a couple of houses out by the Gull Lake campground area. A couple of friends of ours have setup on the "reef" just southwest of our point here but I haven't heard much good news yet. Last year a lot of folks worked that area but only did marginally well at first ice then it dried up. The most consistant spot I know of is off the point of bullrushes wwhich run west off of our point here. Off the end is a deep hole of about 20-30 feet. That held good for all most of last winter. Out in front of our place is also a good consistant area. We have a couple of long spring lines which move fresh water around out here and I set up right between them at about 15 feet deep. Also, the north shoreline is suppose to be pretty good, however, I haven't worked that area my self. Let me know just where you have been working and what depth, etc. and maybe we can start from there and get you on some fish.

We are fishing in the southern most bay out from Eagle Ridge Resort and we have been moving out and north. Were gonna punch a few holes tonight and see if we can catch anything.

Okay, you might want to just hook around the point east of there and setup a ways out in the opening between the bullrush lines. By that I mean the rushes off the east point and the rushes that run that direction from the opposite point which is my shoreline. I have a map on my website's "Lake" page which shows you a deep hole there, although, the map shows it as 39', it's now only about 29' at its' deepest. If you stay closer to your point you should be running at about 18'-20' and do well.

Let me know how you fare and good luck.

thanks for the help. I was also wondering is there any type of a night bite or are we just wasting our time sitting on the lake after dark.

Well, you know all the cliches about fishing..eh? Never a waste of time. Last year we had the best luck from 5:30am-8:00am, 11:30am-2:30pm, 5:30pm-7:30pm, 9:30pm-midnight and 2:00am-4:00am. The best cosistant times were the morning hours and that 9:30-midnight spot. You know that last wind storm shook things up a bit and it usually takes a couple of days to settle down. The next couple of days should be primo. I think I can see your shack out there and I would still suggest moving just a little more around the point from where you are...but you are close. Can you see the shack over here just of my shore? They've been getting into some nice walleyes right there at about 15' of water.

Personally I have to do some repair work on my tractor today and hope to get my portable out in the next day or two. I'll keep in touch.

any luck over the past weekend? Me and my roomate are heading home early so not sure if were getting much fishing in this week. Hopefully when we get back there plenty of ice. The weather sounds good for it.

This weekend we set up a couple of shacks along the bullrushes here off of my point. Both houses caught limits of Northerns, a couple of walleyes and a couple of eelpouts. Most of the action was running in the early afternoon but we had that wind in the evenings and I think that slowed down that time slot.

We'll probably sit it out for a couple of days and let this front move through. It looks as though we'll have enough ice to drive out on by the weekend, but, personally, I'm going to be very cautious as to how far out and where we drive. As we did some thickness checks we found variances of a few inches as we went further out from the shorelines. Gull does have some springs in it and can be deceiving. I have noticed a few folks setting up portables and light perms out in the "hole" I mentioned to you but haven't heard how they are doing yet.

Merry Christmas to all!!

We went out for like half an hour last night to the general area of the hole and didn't catch anything? Probably would have helped if we would have pulled the house out there but it was a really nice night. We found that there was about 11 or 12 inches of ice.

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
