Your fishing year

How does your year of fishing break down?

Like leading up to openers, how do you prepare? When do you start preparing? Do you typically get all geared up in advance, before openers? Or do you kind of improvise after the opener and during the season?

What do you do off season to satisfy that fishing itch?

put the summer stuff away and getting the winter ready, usually respooling and tying up some stuff, mixing gas for the auger and gettting the otter sled down. not really a ritual but tons of fun just dinking around with your fishing stuff. really gets you goin for the ice to come.

My boat was just used last weekend and I think I may take her out this weekend. 35 degrees and light winds make it hard not to fish.

For the year 2004, I did not have the opportunities to fish as often as I would have liked to. But things will be different next year.

We only went on one camping / fishing vacation, but it was satisfying.

No record fish, Only memories of Great Weather, No Mosquitoes, Sunsets and Campfires.

I can hardly wait till the 2005 season.

Hmmmm, 2004.... All in all a great year in the life of Deitz. It will forever be known as the year I was accepted as a FishingMinnesota.Com prostaffer. That was enough to make my year.

I also won more money in tounaments this year than I payed in entry fees. That will make 5 years in a row. I also caught a bass over 6 lbs. SO again.. all in all.. a great fishing season! Looking forward to 05!

Im always prepared. As stated there is no off season when it comes to my fishing. Just trade the boat for waders or a ice house.

After wrapping it up in November I take a little break for Hunting then Ice fishing. Once Feb. rolls around it's time to get the boat out again for river eyes in MN, SD, and IL. Only 2 months till open water if things go right I can't wait.

Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
