I was going to do the Poutfest on the ST.Louis this day but I doubt it will be walkable for all of us. Therefore Im moving the early ice event on Fish Lake to this day. We will probably go out of Highbanks unless we get more ice by the Public Landing. Any input is welcome. See ya Sat the 18th on Fish Lake. Ill be there all day and we can meet up after for a social gathering someplace. Suggestion welcome on this as well. Blue Max, Highbanks, Eagles Nest?

LP1 its good to hear from ya. Dont bring any fishing gear I have more than enough for ya here. Get yourself a hotelroom in Superior and we can travel up to Fish from Souptown together. Still got the same "Snowbunny"? grin.gif

You can count me in, don't know if I will be dragging the grill out for this one. Have a hard time getting it out on the ice. Who wants to get up there and pre fish tommorrow?

Should be able to make it out in the morning of the 18th. How early are you thinking of starting out Steve? I've got a friend who lives on pontoon bay and will try to see if he can give me an ice/bite update next week. Dont suppose there will be any chance to sled overice from the bachelor road access with the way temps have been, and look like for the next week.

Will have the otter there early am and fish the day. Anybody heard if folks are out past airplane island yet?

Seems like most people are sticking close to shore. A guy I talked to went threw by the airguard camground and went over the handle bars. Ouch! Whats 3" in one place may be 1" in another. Carry a spud, vest and dont go alone. It will be ok by this coming weekend. I wouldnt venture out to Airplane yet. The sleds and wheelers are all moving quickly and reel close to shore.

AH MAN! My kids and geand Kids are comming up from the cities for early X mas. The youngest is 7 weeks old is that to early to get them in to fishing? They have so many places and towns to go we decided to have it that weekend. frown.gif If some one can put up a tree and have some eats maybe they can do it on the ice? Im leaving my option open you never Know Nels grin.gif

S.T. I will have my perment house on Grand when ice permits. again this year. stop by if you are out their. Last Sunday 12/5 there were two guys that walked out to where I was set up" NUTS " if you ask me. I went out in front of mike place there was 3" in the bay. we are going out Sun off the point. aroun noon. Nels.

I'd like to go if it's alright. I've had surgery lately and my doc won't let me lift anything over 30# so I can't pop my own holes, so if someone would drill some for me i'd be willing to buy the gas for the auger. I can do everything else, doc just doesn't want me to get a hernia. Please let me know. Thanks

This get together sounds like a great time. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it out there. I have 2 finals that day and those I can't miss. I hope that you all do really well and I wish that I could be out there. Good luck to all those who do make it out.

Finals on a Saturday? Its the 18th of Dec wich is a Sat. I didnt ever have a final on a Sat. when I was in school. What kind of a Prof. would do that to a guy?

wal-i-king is right, finals do start on saturday this year, i better check if i have any. i guess it's the only way you can get everything done with christmas falling on a saturday.

Granny I will be there till after dark. Im thinking we can meet up someplace. Maybe right in Highbanks so everyone knows where we are at? Say 6:15pm or so? What does everyone think? Or just BS in the parking lot, it should be nice if we dont get the freezing rain they are talking about.

I am very very sorry to do this.But I have to back out on the gathering. frown.gifI got a call from by boss at 10:00 am this morning.Got to go back to work for the week. smile.gifThe main contractor we haul for call him and asked for 6 quad dump trucks.Got to haul well over 120,000 ton of mentaral to a privet job. frown.gifSo I got to leave very early on monday to get my truck and be in Southern Wis for the week.Sounds like all 6 days as of now. smile.gifAgain I am very sorry to back out like this. frown.gif

      Just gotta use some common sense and have some ice safety gear.  If I hadn’t duffed the shot on the buck on the last day of rifle season, I’d probably be on the ice this weekend also.  Instead, I’ll still be chasing some vennie.

      just seen a report on fartbook the pines resort on winnie had 8-9 inches in the bay.  they did warn any further out the ice has not been checked, like over by the river!!!!!

      Looks like Vermilion froze overnight on Monday, which would make it officially frozen Tuesday, December 3.  I am going out to McKinley Park Friday morning to check out the ice conditions and possibly fish.

      Looking at the webcams, I don't see any open water. Is Big Bay completely frozen over yet?   The forecast looks like a few inches of snow Sunday/Monday followed by temps below zero.

      I'd say lakes under 500 acers less than 40 ft deep. They're targeting panfish. We're making ice everyday. Windy today, terrible roads, lots of people decided that they needed to drive fast and that unfortunately led to some vehicles doing some incidental off roading

      Fall was like a month long.  Maybe even less.  I'm quite a bit south of you but I can recall fishing in short sleeves in late October.  Less than a month later, prior to Thanksgiving, winter arrived.   September and most of October were way more like summer than fall.  Kind of too bad, I like fall.

      is that 5-6 inches on smaller lakes or ........... bigger water bodies. i'm guessing knowing the lakes i fish or would like to should maybe have more. i will be seeing a former coworker who livws of hwy 6 north of deer river saturday, hoping he's got a good report.   he's a neighbor and good friend to CO Fairbanks so should get some good intel. i know Mike well too!

      It's definitely winter, we have about 4-6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground which has predominantly blown off the ice. I have several friends out on the ice as of late 5-6 inches of ice. I work the next two days, will get the gear together Saturday and go Sunday. I'd be completely fine if we have an early spring like earlier this year.
