msky,

Don't know what part of the lake you plan on fishing, but the Baudette area always seems to be well stocked with emerald's especially early in the year. Adrains has them as do log cabin and walleye jaks in town. I wouldn't buy them in the rapids, only to find a cooler full of half dead ones when you need them when the vex is lit up like a christmas tree come the first morning. I'am sure some other guys on here can give you more up to date info- but I have never had a problem getting emerald shinners in the baudette area.

Here comes the cold weather......

What Mudcutter says is dead on (most years). They are

having a dickens of a time getting shiners in any kind

of numbers this fall. Adrians will have them longer than

anyone but, if you have a place to get them along the

way it wouldn't hurt to get some.

The chubs will work too, but shiners definately are the

bait people like to use.

Call ahead to your favorite bait store and ask before you

start your trip, that way you wont be disappointed.

Good Luck everyone

I also heard that they were having a tough time getting shiners this year. From what I've heard, should be plenty for early ice though.
